Ancient Egyptian God: Ra The Sun God

Dubuque is a calm place to live, it is small, there is not many things to do. It's a good place to live if you have small family because of the places that are surrounding it. The Egyptians had many deities or gods, starting with Ra and Aton, the sun gods, and many lesser gods such as Horus and Isis. Gods had animals as symbols and were portrayed as humans with animal parts (such as a head or wings). The Egyptians related animals with their gods because they respected certain traits the animals had, and attributed the same traits to their gods. The pharaoh, their ruler, was the representative of the sun god on earth, and received homage and worship. Statues of the gods were treated as the gods themselves and were given offerings and homage as well.

They started off Ra, the original sun-god and they didn’t start worshiping their god until the Old Kingdom. Ra was the creator of life and Ra commanded the sky, earth, and underworld. They also believed that Ra could also easily take away everything away without a warning. Though as time moved on and they transition into the New Kingdom they started to worship a new sun-god they called Amon and they believed he created the cosmos. Unlike the sun-god Ra, Amon brought light to the lands and to the Egyptians as well.

He created Shu,Tefnut,then they created Geb and Nut and from them Osiris,Isis,Nephthys and Seth. Pharaohs called themselves the sons of Ra. They also built sun temples to honor Ra.

He plays a major role in the Gods of Mesopotamian beliefs. For the Egyptians though, their sun God was named Ra. Ra was also a major God in Egyptian beliefs and seemed to have much power over other Gods. These two sun Gods could have had a lot of power because we as humans thrive best under sunlit hours. Our food grows better, the sunlight makes it is easier to work (seeing what we are doing), and it is easier to watch and defend ourselves from intruders and attackers.

These gods and goddesses gave the Egyptians a reason to live and Hope for after death. Egyptians were commonly known for their prayers offerings and sacrifices to the gods that they believed in. The Egyptians believed that Ra the sun God came from the ocean and spit out for children, Shu, Tefnut, Geb, and Nut. Shu and Tefunt became the atmosphere, Geb became earth and Nut became the sky. Legend has it that Geb and Nut married and had 4 children who would also be gods and goddesses.
