Analysis Of The Woods Runner By Gary Paulsen

I read the book Woods Runner by Gary Paulsen. Woods Runner is about a 13 year old boy named Samuel whose parents get kidnapped in the Revolutionary War. His parents have been taken to New York City and Samuel has to go there to find them. He goes on the path to New York and meets unexpected allies.

“The Fighting Ground” by Avi, it was a very interesting book it had been settled around the 1700s when there was many, many, many wars for freedom. The main character Jonathan was a boy who had fantasies of being a hero at war will soon go to only a small battle to see his day-dreams aren't real, and gets more than a little life lesson after it’s all over. In the book the fighting ground Jonathan shows many emotions and traits such as on page 8 it shows him as a layer after he lies to his mother by not telling her that his father didn't want him to go to the tavern. Or like on page 140 he shows child innocents and kindness by trying to save a group of Hessians that had kidnapped him.

Samuel is thirteen years old and he lives on the edge of the British colony in Pennsylvania with his parents. There has been rumor of a fight in Lexington and Concord. Samuel is the provider for his family, he knows his way well through the forest. He was out hunting when an attack fell on his home. When he returned home Samuel was too late, the whole town was burnt to a crisp, and there were dead bodies everywhere none being his parents. Samuel quickly discovered that his parents were taken and they might be dead soon so he must find and rescue them, but he doesn’t do it alone for he meets much needed allies along the way who help him save his parents.

No one truly knows what exactly happened during the Revolutionary War, however, the book Forge by Laurie Halse Anderson describes the brutality of the war through a teenage boy’s eyes. Curzon was forged by the hardships of war and slavery, and endured the long winter in Valley Forge, where he forged friendships through hard times in the “mixing pot” of the Valley Forge camp. There are many interpretations for the word forge, and in the book Forge by Laurie Halse Anderson, Curzon explores the meanings of the word forge through the perils of war, the hardships of slavery, and enduring a harsh winter at Valley Forge. In the beginning of the book Forge, Curzon found himself in the middle of a gruesome battle.

My brother Sam is dead The story of “My brother sam is dead” is set in Colonial America.It is set in the year 1775 in Redding, Connecticut where the story follows the main character Tim and his family going through the revolutionary war. Tim doesn’t really pay attention to all the politics and war, but his family does. His father especially is a Great Britian loyalist. The story’s first big event happens (page 13) when Tim’s brother Sam comes back from Yale. The Family is eating dinner on Sam’s first day back when he breaks the news. Sam seems zealous and

David McCullough author of 1776 puts faces and feelings to the events of the Revolutionary war making this an exciting novel even when the ending is known. Acting as a companion to an earlier work of McCullough’s, John Adams, 1776 is a strictly military view of the era versus political. Although the reader may have to get accustomed to the vast amount of characters introduced McCullough makes sure that those you are supposed to remember you will. Every character introduced is described incredibly well and throughout the novel you begin to feel as if you know the character and are going through the battle with them, specifically General George Washington with whom the reader emphasizes constantly with throughout the war.

Have you ever thought about what would happen if the Americans lost the Revolutionary War? In the historical fiction novel The Year of the Hangman by Gary Blackwood the main character, Creighton Brown is kidnapped and taken to South Carolina. On the way to South Carolina he finds out his mother asked his uncle, Colonel Gower to go get Creighton because of his bad behavior. Creighton gets to see both perspectives of the war from the Americans and the British. At the end Creighton switches his loyalty to the Americans.

A kid separated from his family and put into a war front at the age of 12 change this kids life forever. In A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Solider, Ishmael Beah was put through a lot during the cold war in Sierra Leone, and he was given drugs and pills to keep his energy to fight in the war and he was turned into a killer. There where lots of people killed and torture and Beah was just a kid and he was ver frightened and confused about everything. Also Beah and his friends travel around the country for years trying to survive the war and figure out ways to find there way to safety. The theme of the book is no matter what don't give up on yourself because if you give up on yourself your already bound for failure and the during the hole story Beah used resilience to keep on going and not give up.

The book I read is Dog Tags and the book takes place in WW2, it`s about a boy who lies about his age so he can get into the military. His squadron is attacked and his position is overrun by the Nazis and a tree fell over and knocked him out and when he wakes up he is alone. I would recommend this book for readers that like war history books. The book enables you to appreciate the character’s thoughts and feelings. The reader can empathize with the characters.

In My Brother Sam Is Dead although both sides are shown, authors Collier and Collier argue that war is futile.

One thing in the story that shocked me is how different our perception of the Revolutionary War is from the reality. An example of this was how ill trained the American army was at the beginning of the war. The army was undisciplined, disobedient, and motivated only by their paychecks. Many perceive the soldiers as valiant, zealous men, but it wasn’t until much later in the war that the soldiers rose to the occasion and became the warriors that we remember today.

The Revolutionary War is one, if not the most memorable time of American history. It is what started the beginning of the land of the free. The colonization and tyranny of England was not just felt in the thirteen colonies that became America but also in places such as Ireland. Authors such as Jonathan Swift not only acted as literary geniuses but as a way for modern day historians to see the effects of colonization and the hardships of a country where the wealthy and politicians live almost in another world than most of the country that lives in poverty. The works of Jonathan Swift express his political views and social observations during the sixteen and seventeen hundreds at the height of conflict between England and Ireland.
