Holocaust a Time to Never Forget
Imagine seeing a person being stripped from their home and the family members who love and care for them being separated into different camps. Only to be brutally treated and killed for the religion they believe in. This is what happened to almost the entire Jewish population in Europe in the 1930’s to the early 1940’s. The Holocaust was led by German Nazi party leader Adolf Hitler to create one perfect population called the "new order" by exterminating the Jewish population, which lead to the killing of nearly the entire Jewish population in Europe and the destruction of German ties in European countries; this is similar to Pol Pot's terrible reign during the Cambodian genocide written about in the story First They Killed My Father written by Loung Ung.
The Origins of the Holocaust

In 1975, The Khmer Rouge became the ruling political party of Cambodia after overthrowing the Lon Nol government. Following their leader Pol Pot, the Khmer Rouge imposed an extreme form of social engineering on Cambodian society. They wanted to form an anti-modern, anti-Western ideal of a restructured “classless agrarian society'', a radical form of agrarian communism where the whole population had to work in collective farms or forced labor projects. The Khmer Rouge revolutionary army enforced this mostly with extreme violence. The book “First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers”, written by Luong Ung, is the author’s story of growing up during this time period. She was five years old when the Khmer Rouge came
Loung Ung 's First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers follows her struggles as a child during the Angkar rule. Children in Cambodia directly suffered from trauma, which obviously dismisses the myth that children experience less pain than adults. The importance of Ung 's book is the emotional impact she has on the reader because she gives a voice to the victims and to the dead. As Americans, this topic, the Cambodian genocide does not get taught commonly in education. It shows the trauma that the citizens went through and how it affected the country.
Symbolism in First They Killed My Father In different cultures around the world clothing plays an enormous part in people's everyday lives. The Horrifying event all started when Germany appointed Adolph Hitler as their leader. The Holocaust began January 30, 1933 and lasted through May 8, 1945 (History 1). The Holocaust affected numerous of Jews and killed approximately 6 million (History 1). To blame for this uncivil act is Hitler and also the Nazis. The Holocaust was a very traumatic event that was a big reality check on how cruel humans can be to each other.
The Holocaust was the systematic killing and extermination of millions of Jews and other Europeans by the German Nazi state between 1939 and 1945. Innocent Europeans were forced from their homes into concentration camps, executed violently, and used for medical experiments. The Nazis believed their acts against this innocent society were justified when hate was the motivating factor. The Holocaust illustrates the consequences of prejudice, racism, and stereotyping on a society. It forces societies to examine the responsibility and role of citizenship, in addition to approaching the powerful ramifications of indifference and inaction. (Holden Congressional Record). Despite the adverse treatment of the Jews, there are lessons that can be learned from the Holocaust: The Nazi’s rise to power could have been prevented, the act of genocide was influenced by hate, and the remembrance of the Holocaust is of the utmost importance for humanity.
First They Killed My Father is first and foremost a memoir about the horrific genocide of the Cambodian people under Pol Pot’s regime. In regards to the emotion love, there’s hardly any evidence of romance to be found. However, with that in mind, it’s not hard to see aspects of a love story hinted at several parts throughout it. These hints are often not shown in the way most people associate love stories but alongside Ung’s description of the struggles and hardships she faced under Pol Pot.
The Holocaust started by Adolf Hitler. Hitler was born on April 20, 1889. His parents were called Klara Hitler and his dad was named Alois Hitler. Hitler had siblings but out of the six children born only two survived, Adolf his
In the month of March 1933, one of the first camps, Dachau, was opened. Dachau was a concentration camp, or a prison camp maintained by the Third Reich, [the name for Germany when the government was controlled by Adolf Hitler]. Aside these concentration camps was two other types of camps; labor camps, and death camps. A main concentration camp was Theresienstadt. Theresienstadt was located in what is now known as the Czech Republic. More than 150,000 were kept there for months until being sent to their deaths in Treblinka and Auschwitz death camps. The people in
The Holocaust was a time period in which Adolf Hitler was the dictator of Nazi Germany. He prosecuted many Jews because he believed they were the reason World War 1 started, causing the death of 100,000 German soldiers. Because of this, he made sure nearly every Jew was put into concentration camps or killed. Adolf Hitler was a man who wanted everything his way, and because of this he killed innocent people. The Holocaust was an unfair period for the Jews. The Jews were killed because of who they were, and the citizens didn’t try to do anything to help them
At first, the Nazis were only killing political opponents like Communists and/or Social Democrats, for which their harshest persecution was used. Many of the first prisoners sent to Dachau (The first official concentration camp opened near Munich in March of 1933) were communists. By July, the concentration camps run by the Germans held around 27,000 people in what they called “protective custody.” The Nazis had huge rallies and acts of symbolism such as burning of books by Jews. During the years of 1933 to 1939, the hundreds of thousands of Jews who were able to leave Germany got out quickly, but many were left behind, and they lived their lives in a constant state of uncertainty and fear. During the fall of 1939, Hitler started the so-called Euthanasia Program. The Euthanasia Program allowed Nazi officials to select around 70,000 German citizens institutionalized for mental illnesses or disabilities. These Germans were to be gassed to death. After prominent German

The war caused many challenges for the villagers including children like Ung and that affected them in a drastic way.
