A discussion about the strong interest in thrilling movies is both tantalizing and more academic than one may think. In a story, “Why We Crave Horror Movies,” by Stephen King the interest lies in the psychology behind horror movies. However, the article, “The Quiet Screams of the: Horror Blockbuster,” in SCREEN EDUCATION relates to how the filmmakers incorporate specific elements to create an experience. There are many noticeable similarities and differences between a story and a related article about why humanity desires to watch horror movies. Both the story and the article indicate that the evil essence in scary films makes the viewer feel more normal. The story gives an example of the audience, not being the most alluring of the human species, but none of the viewers will ever be anything like the true repulsiveness sometimes seen on the silver screen. In the article, however, a point is made that there may be no evil being, or horrendous picture to compare oneself against in order to feel more average. It is merely the atmosphere of the motion picture that creates a sense of fear.
