Recalling from the previous week, there was what may have been thought of as the daunting, yet interesting assignment given, the project. With that assignment, came the challenge of choosing a subject that could be narrowed down making it easier to work with, in conjunction with certain steps in the process that could be followed such as, eliminating procrastination and tools that could be utilized that would assist in the efforts of making the project successful. Over multiple days and possibly some restless nights of the rolodex of the mind flipping from one card to another, the project seemed to start to come together or in the very least grow from essentially approaching the starting line to actually being at the starting line. Once the thesis statement has been composed the next step in the process is to build an annotated bibliography. An annotated bibliography is essentially a list of resources that are intended to be utilized that pertain to the research project coupled with the reference information relating to the resource and why it is being used (Engle, 2017). The below annotated bibliography contains resources that can be found in various forms such as, books, academic journal articles, newspapers, white paper, and websites.
To begin, listed below are three potential books including a summary of the information that the book contains, which might prove to be helpful when utilized for this research project:
Ratey, J. J. & Hagerman, E. (2008). Spark: The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain. New York, NY: Little, Brown and Company.
This book essentially provides statistical information and cases studies that there is a positive correlation between performing physical activities and brain activity. Much of this book is centered on a case study and experimentation that pertains to how physical
Guidelines are created to ensure a success interview process. Setup meeting time with the individuals, which will be interviewed and be prepared and on time. When conducting the interview examine the background of the organization and have a checklist readily available. Be on time for the interview be sure to pay close attention to what the user is saying and what the company are looking for. Refrain form using computer and information technology jargon. Collect both qualitative and quantitative information from the user. Distinguish between what is a desirable and essential requirement. Repeat back to the user what is
She persuaded me as the audience, and I respect her as a writer. The strength of this article lies in its use of factual evidence. She quotes experts and references multiple studies and experiments. Repeatedly she speaks of neuroscientists Matthew Liberman, Naomi Eisenberger, and Jamil
Task 2 Shelf Life Plot (6 p) In Excel prepare t90 vs. reaction condition plot(s). (If you explored only one variable, you will have a single plot, for several or combined variables, multiple plots may be in order). Paste-in the plot(s) below.
The final project is the submission an annotated bibliography based upon the above conceptual perspective outlined in the project description for your selected project or paper. An annotated bibliography is a list of the references you will be using to support your perspective. Each reference annotation will have below it an annotation which identifies the topic of the study, what the strengths and weaknesses of the study are, and how does it contribute to your interest in the topic.
The article, “Annotated Bibliography: Why You Should Prepare One” entails information on the elements of an annotated bibliography and the advantages to creating one. To start, the article describes the author’s experience in using annotated bibliographies, with the author describing explaining how they used annotated bibliographies before they even knew what one was. Next, the author explains components of annotated bibliographies and instructions on creating a concise annotation. Finally, the article elaborates on the benefits of writing an annotated bibliography.
Annotations are descriptive and critical; they expose the author's point of view, clarity and appropriateness of expression, and authority. Creating an annotated bibliography calls for the application of a variety of intellectual skills: concise exposition, succinct analysis, and informed library research.
For this project we created a market place. I spent many hours creating small details that gave the project a special touch. In the I-Lab, I worked with clay to make the food in both Miami and Rome. This was fun, but at times was very stressful. This is because it was very tedious and after making a few got boring. The clothing in both sides of the marketplace was no different. Sometimes, I became quite agitated because we were pressed on time, but in the end we finished it! Even if Connor did not believe we would. As a group we all took an equal part in this project, I extremely loved the process. I learned that even the most complicated project can be completed in five days. The hardest part of this project was making sure each building would
This is the introduction to a problem solution project I developed last year, in a group of sophomore peers. “In Norse mythology, there is believed to be a world tree. This tree has many branches that connect to various places in our universe. Our project hopes to further extend the branches of this tree from Carroll, Iowa to places such as France, Germany, Egypt, or Cuba and by doing so we hope to expand the knowledge of students. American education lacks cultural awareness and communication skills, both locally and globally. With the help of Carroll High School administration, we plan to incorporate these skills in English 11, starting next year, by communicating in various ways to broaden our knowledge of other countries.” Because of our love for history, we made a whole project about connecting to different cultures around the world. In the end, we couldn’t find a teacher willing to develop the idea into a course curriculum, however I am very proud of this project and the work I put into it.
Conducting an annotated bibliography is very valuable to writing a research paper. It allows you to evaluate the important points from different sources that pertain to the research topic. While summarizing each source you can see how each source relates to your thesis. This way you can determine which information can help support your different claims. I chose to include sources I found through the Shapiro library. I determined which sources to use by seeing if they could be used to help me argue my point on school polices. I didn’t have too much difficultly since I used the Shapiro library I knew the sources I choose were scholarly and peer reviewed. I did have a little difficulty finding articles that were current many articles were older.
As well as looking at that research we also referred to the Encyclopaedia of human intelligence and an interesting article about exercise and cognitive functioning.
There is ample evidence to demonstrate that through the normal ageing process alterations to the brain in structure and function are directly related to cognitive changes (Glisky, 2007). With an increasing ageing population strategies for prevention of disease and age related cognitive decline are necessary to improve quality of life and reduce the associated healthcare costs (Australian Government Productivity Commission [AGPC], 2013). Physical exercise is known to be crucial in maintaining physiological health; it can also be used as a means of neuroprotection and assist in modifiable risk factors for improved brain health and subsequent cognitive function. This review will critically analyse current research into the effects of exercise
A few custom essay writers make them to help stay informed regarding wellsprings of interest and gather their contemplations about the thing, frequently as an antecedent to composing an article or book. Annotated bibliographies are frequently shared or distributed as a method for social occasion the most pertinent sources around an issue in one spot and imparting the data to others. Readers utilize the annotations to help them choose whether or not a source merits seeking after; so it is critical that the annotation be precise and useful.
The articles by Erikson et al., Gatz, Korol et al., and Draganski et al. explore the concept of increased physical activity and/or mental activity having effects on the cognitive function and development or deterioration of the brain as we age. Although I agree that physical exercise is critical in increasing cognitive function because of the health benefits it provides, as well as the increased blood flow and circulation throughout the body, I ultimately believe that a healthy brain is not achieved solely by physical exercise or mental exercise, but both. I think there is a link between physical and mental exercise, and that the combination of these two activities creates higher cognitive functioning of the mind as well as the body. The mind and body come together and meet to make an overall healthy individual.
Having a “Brain Healthy Lifestyle” (Bend, 2014) is made up of several different categories that include “physical health, brain fitness, and vitality” (Bend, 2014) as well as “balanced nutrition, stress management, and mental stimulation” (Sharpbrains, 2014). Our physical health plays a major part in brain function. Exercising our bodies, eating well, and getting the proper amount of sleep has a huge impact on our physical health. “Our brain requires 25% of the blood that is pumped by your heart. The healthier your heart is, the healthier your brain will be” (Bend, 2014). Cognitive fitness is demonstrated by uses of vocabulary, thinking, perception, and attention. It is crucial to make it a normal everyday practice to challenge our brains through new activities. Taking part in a cooking class or learning to
In recent years brain training games have become a topic of interest among both researchers and common people alike. Researchers are interested in the healing properties of brain training while normal people are looking to brain training as a way to improve their performance and get a leg up on the competition in school, work, and life. Up until recently, it was believed that the brain was unchangeable in terms of memory capacity. Researchers were well aware of the fact that the brain can change and form new connections when brain damage occurs. However, the idea that humans can train their brains to be more efficient and stronger seemed like a far-fetched cry from reality up until the late 1990’s (Weicker, Villringer & Thöne-Otto, 2016). As time went on and more research was conducted in the field of brain training, it became clear that brain training is not an exact science but, it does have real cognitive benefits.
