The image I’ve chosen is a still from one of Kanye West’s recent music videos titled “Famous.” I found this video on YouTube a couple months back when it was released in July and found it quite interesting. The specific still I’m using from the video is shown towards the end of the video when the camera completely zooms out revealing all the sleeping bodies. One of the main reasons this image captured my attention and caught me off guard was because of the people featured in the video and the fact that they were all completely naked. Here is a little bit of background on the song itself. During the 2009 VMAs Taylor Swift won the award for “Best Female Video” over Beyonce who was also nominated for the same category. As Taylor was giving her acceptance speech, Kanye came onto the stage and interrupted her by saying that “Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time.” Because of this “historical moment” (if you will) Kanye claims that Taylor Swift is only famous because of him. A popular line from the song “Famous” is “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex why?/ I made that b**ch famous.” Taylor of course did not like this and even talked about this in her Grammy acceptance speech basically saying that she worked hard to get to where she is. Since then there’s been drama between Taylor and The Wests (Kim and Kanye). So when I saw Taylor in Kanye’s video I was very shocked because I knew she wasn’t okay with the song so she definitely wouldn’t participate in such a
Almost Famous (2000) is a dramatization of writer/director Cameron Crowe’s real-life experiences as a teenage rock reporter for Rolling Stone. Based on thinly-veiled autobiographical material from the precocious beginnings of Crowe’s early career, the screenplay shapes sentimental memories into movie magic. But how did Crowe give his own coming-of-age tale such universal appeal? A closer look reveals that Almost Famous, like most films worth their salt, is yet another incarnation of the greatest and only mythological adventure, “The Hero’s Journey.” This relationship can be explained using the framework of Joseph Campbell’s phenomenal book, The Hero with a Thousand Faces,
After the mother died in a tragic car accident, the father of one girl named Mick found and married a new mother of three girls. There was a president of a kingdom who wanted to find his son a bride. They will be inviting all of the girls in the local town on a two-day cruise to find the lucky one!
I have chosen the move Fatal Attraction to depict a character suffering from mental illness. I remember watching this movie with anticipating fear of what was going to happen. This movie is about a happy family compromised by an obsession resulting from an affair. Dan Gallagher is the husband and father in this film who has an affair with Alex Forest and then wants to end it with her. Dan has a happy life with his wife Anne and daughter Ellen, all of which Alex desires. In terms of DSM-IV, I would diagnose Alex with Histrionic Personality Disorder which falls in Axis I category. One characteristic of this is precipitating and perpetuating causes. (Baird, 2011, P. 264; P. 267) Alex appeared to be a strong woman, and may have well been, until the affair happened. This event could have been the trigger for her disorder, causing her to refuse letting him go. As such, the disorder manifested and worsened as time went on. Dan told Alex the relationship was over and that he loved his wife but Alex wanted more and would not let up. She even kidnapped their daughter, Ellen, and took her to an amusement park to live out part of her obsession with him. This leads to the second characteristic of Alex as she demonstrates excessive emotionality and manipulation. (Baird, 2011, P. 275) Alex felt she could not live without Dan and needed reassurance from him that he loved her. She wanted to step right in and take his wife’s place. Her expectations were unrealistic
Another figure that appears on this music video is the country singer Taylor Swift, who was the eye of controversy when Kanye West interrupted her after she won best female video award (MTV 2009). First question that needs to be asked after Kanye crashed the stage of the awards is WHY?. What made him feel that way, in which he takes those minutes of fame away from younger Taylor Swift. We could think all he wants is attention but it is more than that. Mr. West feels that he has the right to tell others what is good and bad since he “clearly” know the answers.
We have no idea what actually happened between her and Katy Perry. I didn’t realize you had to live and breathe feminist ideology and get along with every woman on earth. She and Nicki Minaj get along fine, Nicki herself has said how much she loves her. Beyonce and Jay Z are her friends. Yes, she’s said some things that sounded entitled. SHE APOLOGIZED. SHE ADMITTED SHE WAS WRONG. Yes, she’s written songs with homophobic (one song, from her first album when she was 16) and slut-shaming lyrics, but she hasn’t released a song like that in over 5 years and has apologized many times for all of it. Yes, she said there’s “special place in hell for women who don’t help other women” because Tina Fey and Amy Poehler made a comment while hosting an award show. Yes, it was a joke. Taylor could have ignored it or responded better to it, but it happened to be during the height of her media scrutiny and she was just fucking tired of people making jokes. How would you feel if every news outlet was making you out to be some psycho serial dater? You’d probably say something you shouldn’t have either. PEOPLE MAKE MISTAKES. SHE’S A HUMAN BEING, and she’s not perfect. Also, PEOPLE CHANGE. People learn. 5 years ago I thought slut shaming was okay. I was racist and homophobic. Now I KNOW BETTER, and I can guarantee Taylor does too, otherwise she wouldn’t have admitted she was wrong. She identifies as a feminist. She supports equality for all people. That’s what feminism is. She’s extremely influential to girls all over the world. There are probably girls out there who are identify as feminists now only because Taylor Swift does. It encouraged them to be as well. She tells her fans that they’re beautiful because all people are beautiful and that they are not defined by someone else’s opinion of them. She has
Taylor Swift, a pop icon and polarizing figure, is often known for her empowering music, feminist attitude, and meaningful lyrics. Many of her fans praise the feminist messages some of her songs deliver, however others say she comes from a position of privilege and only advocates for white women. Still, a common perception of Swift is that she has evolved from an innocent country singer into a more controversial and sometimes provocative pop singer. What is ignored though, is that despite this perception, themes depicted in “old” Taylor’s music still displayed highly problematic concepts about gender, just in less obvious ways. Particularly in her music video for “You Belong With Me,” the audience if presented with a fulfilling love story involving a nerdy girl getting the popular. On its surface, this concept may seem normal, but the narrative of this video unintentionally conveys significant gender issues in today’s society. Thus, through her 2008 music video for “You Belong With Me,” Taylor Swift ironically presents herself as the ideal nerdy girl next door who gets the guy when she suddenly turns beautiful while demonizing a cheerleader, revealing problematic notions of how women are supposed to look and behave in society, as well as reinforcing negative female stereotypes.
Along with Taylor Swift saying this will be a new her, she is also referencing multiple other celebrities throughout the music video. Some say that when she is lying in a bathtub full of diamond jewelry she is making fun of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West when they had been robbed. Kim and Kanye were robbed in Paris while being at gunpoint. She also referenced Katy Perry multiple times. Including, when she crashed her car into a light post and had the exact same hair and an outfit style as Katy Perry would have. Which is Taylor is making fun of Katy saying that she is a drama queen and needs the attention of the paparazzi. She also references Katy by showing her walking a cheetah on a leash and Katy Perry is known for cheetah print and exotic things. Another person Taylor shows reference to be Tom Hiddleston with the black crop top t-shirts saying “I Love Taylor Swift” which is significant because Tom and Taylor dated for about three months, but Taylor broke it off because Tom wanted to go public and Taylor knew what
Directed by Jason Moore and screenplay written by Kay Cannon, Pitch Perfect is one of the funniest films to watch and the nations’ number one cappella comedy. There was a special screening of the film, which aired on September 25, 2012, at LSU Student Union Theater, which turned out to be a great success. Approximately, half of the students that stood in line got in to see the movie as it sold out. Since there were more students waiting to see the movie, a second show aired right after the first show ended. This hilarious film made over thirteen million dollars, which is phenomenal. The production budget of Pitch Perfect cost about seventeen million dollars. This film gives an in site and a better understanding of college life. This film
“Yo Taylor, I’m really happy for you…I’ll let you finish. But Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time!” (West). Most people if they don’t know anything about Kanye West, they know this quote. When anybody hears his name everybody always has an opinion. Some people love him, while a lot of other people hate him, each for a variety of reasons. Though most people only see the arrogant and egotistic side of Kanye, the more important side that people don’t always see is the hardworking musician. In order to fully understand Kanye’s motives and to fully appreciate him, people have to know how he got to the point he is now today.
Some of Kanye West’s most critically received moments have taken place during awards shows. Two such notable moments occurred when West walked onstage to interrupt an acceptance speech from both Taylor Swift and Beck at different ceremonies; he felt that Beyonce was more deserving of the awards and went out of his way to make his opinions very clear. Since then, both Swift and Beck have forgiven the rapper. In fact, it is rumored that West will be working with Swift on a remix of her song “Bad Blood,” which may be released as the next single on her 1989
Or perhaps the real artist, Taylor Swift’s purpose is to show the audience how ridiculous is the media image that has been created on her. It is a warning for both boys and girls, primarily those who are hoping to attract love from boys that love is perpetuated by its tortuousness. It is painful if boys will lose interest, that is Swift’s warning. The song revolves around a message for girls: do not be a daydream dressed like a daydream; do not be a nightmare dressed like a nightmare; do not find out what kind of a girl he wants and be like that forever, do not be heaven, do not be nice, do not be magic, never be too plain or perfect and good. You can also add torture to love and bring darkness to light, it is all about the
It starts off with the casting of the devils, perfect way to start off a gossip-based album. Kanye sings “We on an ultra light beam … This is a God dream … This is everything,”. With the Grammy-winning gospel artist Kirk Franklin saying a prayer at the end of the track, it really gives this song an 11a.m church service feel. After a devils casting we see another gospel sound of a Pastor in “Father Stretch My hands”, this two part song brings his family and uprising in Chicago to a main attention but still incorporated his douche bag ways and came out with the bold statement “Now if I fuck this model and she just bleached her asshole, and I get bleached on my t-shirt, I’mma feel like an asshole”. Kanye has a style like no other; he doesn’t care what critics have to say and its what makes his songs come out so bold, if he needs to speak about his religious views, he will surprise you with church organs playing in the background but yet with a mix of profanity and tons of it. “Famous” really hit the hit list starring the fabulous Rihanna to play the lead girl singer really made this song ten times better, but of course it wouldn’t be a Kanye move if he didn’t take shots at Taylor Swift. “I made that bitch famous” was known to make some type of appearance in his new and upcoming album. Not only did that statement stand for Kanye’s egoistic
Miss Representation showcases the horrific realities of female media representation that flood the outlets of our modern society. I knew that sexism was an issue but I never realized the severity of it. Instantly the film reveals how the media corrupts the mind of viewers, making young girls focus their attention on how they look rather than empowering them intellectually. Young women are predisposed to believe that their worth is reflected by their appearance with constant images of the “perfect” body or what you “should” look like. Not only are these expectations of women unattainable but also, radically ruins there self esteem, 53 percent of 13-year old are displeased with their body. This is not occurring for no reason, our self image
“Ordinary people” everywhere are faced day after day with the ever so common tragedy of losing a loved one. As we all know death is inevitable. We live with this harsh reality in the back of our mind’s eye. Only when we are shoved in the depths of despair can we truly understand the multitude of emotions brought forth. Although people may try to be empathetic, no one can truly grasp the rawness felt inside of a shattered heart until death has knocked at their door. We live in an environment where death is invisible and denied, yet we have become desensitized to it. These inconsistencies appear in the extent to which families are personally affected by death—whether they
Friends are one of the most important part of person 's lives. They are the people which I can rely on. We’ve played and laughed together when we were in school. Middle school and high school are the most joyful time in my childhood. And time passed away quickly, the best group of friends separated all over the world. Sometimes, I really want to go back in time and see them again. However, life wouldn’t let me do so. There is one song that can express my feeling right now. It was “See you Again” by Wiz Khalifa. This song reminds me some of my happiest time in my life with my friends.
