Lowell high school students visited locations throughout Lowell National Historical Park in early June, filming segments of the “Children’s Earth Anthem” to be edited into a video, featuring the park and city for a music video. Dr. Sharon Clark, director of the music program for Lowell public schools was able to coordinate with the Lowell High School choir during the last weeks of the school year on this special, nationwide project.
Proposed by Louise Phillips of Washington, D.C., and composed by Charles Eversole, Artistic Director of the Singing Angels, the Children’s Earth Anthem is designed to be a nation-wide celebration of the National Park Service Centennial with students performing the song throughout the country. Parks were asked
“An athlete silently protests during the national anthem. People respond with taunts of "traitor," "you're a disgrace" and "leave our country!" Are these angry tweets aimed at National Football League players kneeling during the national anthem?”said by writers Lonnie Bunch and David Skorton.Due to half of the 49ers team kneeling during the National Anthem 49ers fans are burning their jerseys due to the refusal of the players to stand during the National Anthem. Many fans are outraged and boycotting National football because of the fact that football players are disrespecting the flag by kneeling during the National Anthem. The reason players should stand for the National Anthem is because the United States Flag stands for the individuality and
The first play was performed by the combined choirs which called “You are the new Day” composed by John David. The shorter version of the same song was played at the end of the concert. The shorter version of the song was as the
NFL players take a knee for the anthem, what's next soccer players not showing up for their own anthem. The “Star Spangled Banner” is our national anthem and it is a way we honor our men and women who fought for this country. When the national anthem is played, NFL players take a knee or remain seated. That is just showing disrespect for our flag. That is a message that it’s delivered to people and some may agree or disagree. Taking a knee for the National Anthem is not an appropriate form of silent protest.
Theme of Anthem by Ayn Reed is not to think as a group but rather as individuals. The book clearly shows this through chapter 11 when Equality 7-2521 discovers the word I and thinking as an individual. Also in the introduction the reader sees that the book was first called Ego then later changed to Anthem the name Ego was a representation of the main point of her book. In this world an ego or selfishness would be frown upon be of the way of the time. After the unmentionable Years the world was rewritten and given a great amount of equality. An old saying Sums up this perfectly, " there can be to much of a good thing" and that is true of Anthem be chase with so much equality no one can be themselves and have their own thoughts. A quote that
After watching “The Language You Cry In” in class, I found myself reflecting on how music has impacted my life and with whom I have shared it with. It’s truly incredible how a simple, 5 line chorus ultimately allowed this woman to discover her history as it traveled from Sierra Leone all the way to the Gullah society in Georgia. The really displays the power that music can have over not only individual societies, but over the globe. No matter what political movements were occurring and throughout the immense inequality and slavery that was being faced, music has always remained reliable. This song brought people together and allowed them to embrace their heritage even in the worst of times, and I believe that this is still true today.
Growing up I learned to stand up, put my right hand over my heart, and to show as much respect as I can to the Armed Forces and people who have died for our country. There has been a lot of drama over people not standing for the National Anthem. It is all over social media and the news around the country. People should stand for the National Anthem. The armed forces deserve respect and kneeling is a great sign of disrespect to them and our country.
The National Football League (NFL) is a professional American football league consisting of 32 teams. It is the most popular sports league in the United States. While the NFL mainly consists of football, some players find the need to bring politics into the league. These politics include racial discrimination and police brutality. Even though these issues need to be taken care of in this country, the National Football League is not the place to deal with these political problems.
International 4-8818 is a very interesting character in Ayn Rand’s Anthem, who is often torn between what is law and personal desires. He is described as having eyes like fireflies. He wasn’t liked in the home of the students because he made people smile without reason. International also was looked down upon for drawing pictures on the walls using coal. He is put down already for being different, but in chapter one, he seems to find himself caught between helping his friend, Equality, and following the laws of The Council. In chapter one, he and Equality come across a hole in the ground, leading into a room left from the Unmentionable times. Equality wants to go explore, but International 4-8818 is torn between following his friend, or the law. “Since the Council does not know
Overall, in my opinion, my Anthem essay showed my creative side when it comes to writing. It also showed some risk taking as I wrote in a style that I’ve never written before, I attempted to sound “passionate” rather than “passive” through new and complex vocabulary. Despite it being my first essay of the year, I felt it was still an excellent essay, however, I’ve noticed flaws such as not explaining my quotations and claim very well, and some minor grammar and wordiness issues. Compared to my freshmen essays, my Anthem essay definitely showed substantial growth. It was not my best work, though, I struggled a great deal in trying to explain how my textual evidence related to my thesis.
Citizens of Anthem, you have been living in a bland society for too long. I have been reading about your society while living in an individualistic society. I your leaders have been fooling you all these years. You are not all equal like your leaders make you believe.
We march on out to the stadium, the percussion player taps on his snare every so gently, with the flick of his rist he plays a beat and our feet roll in time against the pavement. The band looks uniform, like marching soldiers. People line up against the curb, moving their eyes with our steps, as they bend a curve on their face in joy.
This poem, Praise Song for the Day by Elizabeth Alexander, is one of the most memorable poems that have been recited within the last 20 years. Immediately after President Obama was sworn into office, Elizabeth Alexander recited her poem to the masses that had gathered on that cold winter day in January. The piece is full of symbolism, with the tone being hopeful, inspiring and thankful. The poem begins with a description of daily life which is filled with the daily grind of hard working individuals, often doing the work that drives this great nation of ours…small businesses, blue-collar laborers, honorable professions such as teaching.
An Analysis of The Great Hymn to the Aten All is created by a greater being. From Christianity to Scientology, everyone has their own belief or a shared belief of how the world was created. Some believed everything was created by one god, others believed it was created by a council of gods. Great literary works were written to commemorate these gods, works that have unraveled the mysteries of humanities ancient past, and one of these works is The Great Hymn to the Aten.

In August of 2016, Kaepernick began his protest during a NFL preseason game where he initially sat during the singing of the national anthem. At the time, his rebellious efforts became unnoticed, but he soon enough made headlines when someone took a photo of him sitting during the anthem. Thus a social issue was born from the public’s reaction from the photo. The negativity of the public’s reaction stemmed from the norm that it is customary that people raise their right hand over their heart while facing the flag when the Star-Spangled-Banner is playing, so if one does not follow this norm it is identified showing disrespect. Inevitably, the prediction of the people’s reaction were to be expected as they were outraged when Kaepernick broke the norm. Although, it is legal for individuals not to follow these sacrosanct protocols, citizens of the United States find this norm obligatory.Would you stand by and constantly watch the same social issues to keep reoccurring in your neighborhood? Not only that but it keeps happening to different people by the same organization? When numerous acts of police brutality occurred, Colin Kaepernick decided to protest. He could no longer stand by and do nothing; he decided to take a knee. For professional National Football League (NFL) player, Colin Kaepernick, his response was “no”. One of the last waves that came toward the end of the summer is the kneeling while the national anthem played during sporting events. When Kaepernick decided to
