In “Seventh Grade”, by Gary Soto, Victor is mostly awkward but is also fearless. During lunch, Victor secretly looks for Teresa. Here, he explains what he does to hide his search for her. He pretends to study, and fakes speech among other things. Essentially, Victor explains that he wants to find Teresa without other kids knowing. Basically, the author is saying that he is awkward around and at the thought of Teresa. Victor is awkward because he “stretched out lazily” in trying to “disguise his snooping” while looking for Teresa. By “snooping” the author means that he is secretly looking for Teresa. This action displays how he can’t act normal while thinking of her. It can be inferred that Victor is awkward about Teresa. Even though some may
“Seventh Grade”By Gary Soto-LDC Seventh grade is really hard if you think about it. Well, for some people. Not for me. In Gary Soto’s short story, “Seventh Grade” The main character ,Victor, is always trying to impress this girl he likes,Teresa. He is always trying to say the right things and not embarrass himself, but always fails.

I read the realistic fiction I Totally Funniest a Middle School by James Patterson. This book has 320 pages. According to a customer review on goodreads.com “sometimes you want to yell GO JAMIE. “ I think that the book is for middle schoolers. I say this because there are some adult situations in the book that younger ages are not ready to learn about yet.
Seventh Grade There are multiple of different changes to the character's mindset in the story “Seventh Grade” by Gary Soto; for example Victor was feared of explaining something in French that will make Teresa assume he wasn’t wise enough, how both Victor & Teresa became more pleased between each other instead of an awkward feel, and how Victor became more courageous communicating to Teresa. First of all, Victor was anxious of exclaiming something peculiar to Teresa, so he would have a fixed mindset because he is thinking negatively about what he will say in French that might gravely embarrass him in front of Teresa. In the text it states “La me vave me con le grandma,” he said uncertainly. Mr. Bueller, wrinkling his face in curiosity, asked
“Seventh Grade” by Gary Soto is a short story narrative that illuminates the hardships of middle-schoolers. In this writing, Victor, the main character, deals with conflicts that are for most seventh graders today, relatable. The events that occur in the plot, are fiction, but they are very relevant and potentially life-like; which makes the narrative realistic fiction. Additionally, many examples from the story demonstrate the overarching theme, that being open to risk can lead to the accomplishment of your goals, “Victor raised his hand, wanting to impress Teresa…'I didn’t know you knew French,' she said. ‘That was good.'”(Soto, 1990). Gary Soto writes in third person limited, specifically to seventh graders/transitioning middle schoolers. He achieves his purpose, which is to convey the perspective of seventh graders on daily problems, by using appropriate language; “They shook hands raza-style… I ain’t making a face, ese.” (Soto, 1990). The syntax in this sentence fits the purpose of the writing; the ‘ain’t’ connects to the fact that Soto is writing for middle schoolers. Soto not only uses dialogue, diction, and syntax to achieve his purpose but to also
In the short story,’’The Seventh Grade,’’ by Gary Soto, Victor is a 7th grade boy who will do whatever it takes to impress his 7th grade sweetheart, Teresa. Victor even said,’’Teresa is going to be my girl this year.’’ Victor is determined to get Teresa to pay attention to him,and if he tries hard enough it may come true. This shows that that he really has feelings for Teresa, and that he just wants her to feel the same. Victor tried so hard he even sacrificed himself by trying to speak french to impress her,’’Frenchie oh wewe in September,’’Mr.Bueller understood that the boy didn't know french and turned away.’’ Victor was not feeling 100%,and he knew that he embarrassed himself in front of his crush. He thought he would be teased, and that
Theme is the message of the story that the author wants the reader to take away from the story. In the short story “Seventh Grade” by Gary Soto. The theme is don’t pretend to be someone you are not. For example, Mr.Bueller remembers his story about how he tried to impress his girlfriend by renting different cars every time they had a date. This led to him to running out of money. He pretended to be someone he was not. Victor also tried to be someone he was not by pretending to know how to speak French fluently to impress his crush, Teresa. Luckily, no one pointed out that VIctor didn’t know French, so he wasn’t embarrassed in front of the whole class, including Teresa.
“The lady’s eyes met mine, and held them, knowing Very well what it was all About.” In the poem, “Oranges”, and the two passages “Broken Chain” , and “Seventh Grade” written by Gary Soto, are all realistic fictions, that show how three boys have a few problems with getting the girl that they like, and how young love is present. All three pieces of Gary includes in “Oranges” how the young boy is nervous for his date, and lacks confidence to begin. In “Seventh Grade” Soto provides us with the fact tkkhat the young boy is shy, and timid. Plus, in “Broken Chain” Soto shows us that the young boy in this story is insecure about his looks, and wants to meet Society's expectations. Soto uses dialogue to reveal the character traits of insecurities, wanting to fit in, and having motivation to get a girl.

Many things about the story that can be compared and contrasted, including theme, plot, conflict, etc. I will be comparing and contrasting three story elements. The three I will be doing is theme, conflict, and feelings throughout the movies. Both movies were easy to analysis so I could type this essay. Throughout my entire life – just like anyone else – English and writing papers has been present. In our society, writing papers is a necessary part of educating our youth and helping them to become smarter individuals. For me, these papers have always been a dreaded experience. As soon as a teacher starts talking about a paper that is coming up, my brain instantly starts freaking out. From one-page papers that had to be written in middle school, to a twenty minute presentation I had to give at the end of my senior year – and everything in between – my fear of writing spans over most of my life and doesn’t seem to be getting any better.

Middle school was a lot of fun for me, I met a lot of new people and lots of new girls. It was also kinda tough in the beginning with switching classes and things and having so many different teachers and lots of homework from different classes and having to remember the room numbers of each class but eventually I got used to everything.
