In the Novel “All The Pretty Horses” by author Cormac McCarthy, the book develops the ideas about how imagination affects an individual’s willingness to embrace or reject an uncertain future. The people in John Grady's life affect his future in certain ways, the decisions he makes based on the opinions of his peers, to the death of loved ones. John is a unique character in this book, he acts out on what he wants. He never speaks much but he acts a lot, and for john his actions speak louder than words. Such as riding away from San Angelo into mexico. He rode with his friend Rawlins and they do not encounter much trouble, this is when they are truly living the life of the cowboys. For John this shows that he's ready for what's going to come at him. Heading out into mexico with no plan shows us that John is ready to embrace any future that hits him. Whether it hits him like a train or rolls by like a tumbleweed. John Grady will be ready for what comes his way no matter what. Another person in his life who changed the ways John Grady thought was he sick father. His father was a second world war vet. Being in the war gave certain experiences and a certain mind set for his father. These rubbed off on John as he got taught “life lessons.” His father was a broken man. “Looks at the world with sunken eyes as if the world out there had been altered or made suspect by what he’d seen of it elsewhere.” This quote is from the Narrator of the book, giving us a detailed description of
The narration in this novel adds so much dimension to the story. It all starts with John telling his own life story. His story becomes much of Owen’s life story when John and Owen meet. John narrates his and Owen’s life along with telling his own thoughts and feelings about how everything happened. John also flashes back and forth between his present day life in Canada and his past life in Gravesend. This is what adds dimension to the story because Johnny is relating his present life to his past life. He has many political aspects when it comes to the time period that he grew up in. Growing up in the sixties was not a pretty time. There was war, assassinations, and social inequality. John even states, “Whenever I hear someone generalizing favorably about ‘the sixties,’ I feel like Hester, I feel like throwing up”(510). Referring to all the times that Hester threw up in the rose bushes on New Year’s Eve.

“When you know the truth it will drive you insane”. The quote by Aldous Huxley perfectly encapsulates what happened to the character John throughout Brave New World. John idolizes the World State and always has wanted to go there. Since he has lived on a savage reservation his whole life he’s never known the luxuries such as “soma” and “feelies”. John has evolved a great deal throughout Brave New World, he started naive and hopeful, became skeptical of the World State’s greatness, and ended depressed and angry.
Cole’s grandfather was the only entity of the world to die. Cole’s chance to inherit the farm was also taken away by his grandfather’s death. McCarthy’s use of adjectives to appeal to the physical senses does well in introducing John Grady Cole’s central disposition within the book and his growing disconnection with the world around him. The pivotal problem, brought to acknowledgement by the mood of sadness created through imagery, is John Grady Cole’s dissatisfaction with the status quo. He seeks a change in his periphery.
Though John Grady follows this template in All the Pretty Horses, love is only one aspect of his rite of passage. Before leaving San Angelo, John Grady is seen unsure of himself and in a state of perpetual blankness like most teenagers, but also is unusually possessed by a search for meaning, for fulfillment. He searches the plot of his mother's play for divine significance, looks to the landscape for answers while riding with his father for the last time, and eventually leaves his hometown not to pursue a new destination, but rather on a quest for one, for some purpose to his life. In San Angelo, his life lent itself to a vacuous limbo; his mother neither offered him guidance nor ceded him control and his father is a beaten man on his last breaths, his last relationship with a girl ended apathetically. By the end of the novel, John Grady grows up in all the capacities of a true hero he has learned to be a father to Blevins, a lover to Alejandra, and a friend to Rawlins. Most importantly, he has lost his innocence without becoming disillusioned. At the end of the novel, he is a hardened hero, but also a wise one. His spirit is no longer defined by its emptiness but by its completeness; its synthesis of the moral and amoral, the serene and
In the ending of the book it talks more about what John does in the future, not only with his life but for the movement as well. For example he discovers that there is a school in Nashville that specialized in helping black men and woman become missionaries and ministers though he didn't feel he was doing enough. He ended up going to a baptist church meeting a man teaching non violence workshop. His methods were later shared among his classmates and they carried out Civil Action and Civil Disobedience in the name of the civil rights

There are times in life when one relies only on what they know. One can always hope for change, but the habit in their mind is not easily broken and it is far too late for any major, drastic alterations. Along with this constant relying on an object or other human beings, comes the responsibility to eventually pay for the consequences that may be entitled to the action. Owning up to a mistake or taking full responsibility has become something pushed aside in society. Yet, there is no getting away from earth eventually taking its toll. The characters in the story of Rocking Horse learn this lesson as they eventually learn the dangers of the field that they were not taking responsibility in. In D.H. Lawrence’s Rocking Horse, three main messages found include economic principles, dealings with luck, and family circumstances.
A. One time I was showing in a horse show st Columbus, Ohio it was congress. While I was showing my horse Sonny he ran down to a stop a hit the ground really hard and I about fell off so I grabbed the horn. The ground at congress is not very good, it is really deep and heavy. I hate grabbing the horn because it does not look good and it makes you look like you cannot ride. When he hit the ground real hard I lost my stirrup while he checked the ground. When he got back in the ground he hit it even harder and thats when I grabbed the horn.

“For the first time, I´m not just nervous about what´s to come; I´m scared.” This quote is said by John right before him and Eight teleports him and John to New Mexico. And another quote that just confuses me as a reader is; “Only by leaving someone good can you meet someone better.” John is an idiot Sarah is perfect she’s attractive smart very artistic and oh yeah in love with John! If I am to militate anything onto you it’s I want to effect you to believe that the author should have wrote the storyline for John differently. We see way to often of doubt and self-pity even though John could worry about the Mogadorians trying to kill everyone on earth trying to find John and the other Lorians.
