This Summer, I had the opportunity to spend my entire break attending conferences and interning at a lab at UCSD so I thought to myself I would never have the time to visit any art museum or do my summer assignments for that matter. That was until I realized I was living at a campus who had an art piece practically on every corner of their six colleges. I then began my journey, on scooter, to discover the hidden and the not so hidden gems The Stuart Collection at UCSD had to offer. It was then that I fell in love with 2 specific art pieces throughout the campus, those being Do Ho Suh’s Fallen Star, which depicts an immigrant’s transition into American culture, and Kiki Smith’s Standing, which depicts a seemingly tortured woman.
In the early morning hours of March 18, 1990, a pair of thieves disguised as Boston police officers entered the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and roamed the Museum’s galleries, stealing thirteen works of art. There is a reward of $5 million for information leading to the recovery of these works in good condition. No one has found out, it has been 25 years of theories as to what happened.
It is believable that John Vanderlyn, in his painting Landing of Columbus, was trying to portray the success of Columbus and his crew. Columbus heroic stance and elegant expression are made all the more impressive in comparison to the native people who witness the event. The Native Americans are naked, fearful or subservient, bowing down before the explorer in awe and reverence. The symbols of empire are shown in the heroic explorer with his Christian crosses and steel swords symbolizing the significance in the power of civilization. In 1836 of June, Congress had commissioned John Vanderlyn to paint the Landing of Columbus. About eleven years later the painting was

On Tuesday we took a trip to the Chrysler Museum to view the "Branding the American West" exhibit. In this exhibit it had a wide selection of Art types which we had a guide take us around to view them. While I was there I was surprised to see a more variety of art than I thought I would see. I saw television art that was made by a Korean man, A glass hamburger with fries and a Pepsi; this one was the most interesting to me because I had never seen art like that in my life. Another cool thing is that most of the art here at the exhibit had descriptions by them to let you know what the art means and who the artist were. However, their is one piece of art that I liked the most and that one is the Pima Basket.
The piece that was chosen was a cast bronze sculptor called “Mantime” in the American Painting and Sculptors exhibition from the El Paso Art Museum. This piece was created by Harry Geffert in 1995. Geffert is an American sculptor who was born in Live Oak County, Texas in 1934. As of today he lives and works at Crowely, Texas. Geffert has a Master degree from New Mexico Highlands University, Las Vegas, New Mexico and a Bachelor’s degree in South West Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. American art, and its countless mediums, evolved equally with the capitalist country. This is a visual medium and a form of self-expression, where an artists is free to turn a canvas into anything he or she would like. They are not bound by grammar, words or other aspects of written communication and could freely As the old saying goes, "A picture is worth a thousand words”; and in America, their work served as mirrors of the social and political climate. The many painters, architects, and photographers themselves could be considered the archivists that shaped the “all-American” identity.
African American class is one of my favorite classes. I have learned some new things about the African American art history during the 20th century. Also, I have known some of the important artist, and being able to discover their lives. However, one of those artists was George Washington Carver, who was a American botanist and inventor. He was a Muslim scientist. He was born into slavery in Missouri in 1864. He has a wild reputation because he had changed the way that poor family lives on. In addition, Carver had made some recherché about promotion of alternative crops to cotton, such as peanuts and sweet potatoes. He also had developed many products that made from peanuts, and that were useful for the house and farm, including cosmetics,

Yet six of the priceless artifacts are still unaccounted for.

Each one of them is famous African American artist who shared a history, culture, the experience and struggles of their art work.
After have dinner with a group of illustrator friends, posters on street inadvertently grabs my attention. Walking on a familiar path to home, I see posters are secretly glued on coner of wall, showed on large screen at side of street, passing around like booklet... if every poster stands for an event, then it is surprising to notice such many events are silently on going around me.
