What helped me see that have transitioned into an adult was during induction on November of this year for Alpha Phi Nu chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. It was a very formal event where all the new members are called my name and they sign their name into a special book for induction. I was upstage as not just a member but as a VP of Scholarships for my chapters speaking to the new members. Sitting in the front of the stage nervous but excited to give this small speech of thanks to a choir that sang for us and saying congratulations to the new members. Being given such a huge responsibility, that I would have most likely not have done when I was younger was such a huge step for me. I was always told that sometimes adults would have to do things they
As a member of Phi Theta Epsilon, I will continue to pursue my occupational therapy degree in the presence of other highly motivated students that share the same values and the same desire to contribute to the continued growth and promotion of our profession. I will continue to seek the knowledge and experience necessary for me to become the best occupational therapist that I can be for my future clients with the support of Phi Theta Epsilon. I will demonstrate continued academic excellence and professionalism through my role in positively representing occupational therapy at Alvernia. I am excited for the opportunity to represent occupational therapy not only here at Alvernia, but also within the larger community as well.

On the other hand, the nightlife of W.P. Carey is much different compare to the daytime. At night, especially on Tuesday, one can see as seamlessly orchestrated parade of Sororities girls and Fraternities boys, in all their pride and glory for their individual groups and Arizona State University, come through to gather for the weekly meetings. It seems like the majority of organizations have meetings or events at night on Tuesday. Alpha Sigma Phi had a bid day event on the courtyard, where old members and new or potential members meet up and enjoyed pizza and drinks to meet one another and welcome the new recruits into their brotherhood.
Hello! We hope that everything has been well with you since we last had contact two years ago. We hope that this letter find you well, and we come to you with no malicious intent with the hopes that you would hear us out. We have experienced immense growth and have had ample time to reflect following the decision to terminate the DC Alpha Chapter of Phi Delta Epsilon International Medical Fraternity in 2014.
Instead of staying in the secluded town I have always lived, I went on a trip, through a school function, that took me outside of the country I have never left before. I truly believe it was the first time I actually experienced another culture. Also, sleeping in cabins with people I did not know was a new experience but it was enjoyable. I feel as if I have transitioned into an adult through this trip. I acquired the skills on how to meet and live with new people quickly, and how to live on my own without being dependent on my parents. Also, I feel that I have seen more of the world and can understand others’ thoughts and beliefs. Now I have attained the necessary components to be an
Our Phi Theta Kappa Chapter partnered with Little City, a non-for profit organization, to create a vegetable garden, where we work throughout the summer and beginning of fall. I was part of the project from day one when we started setting everything up, until the day when we harvest some of the vegetables. A few Little City’s residents cooked the vegetables and we had the opportunity to eat some of
An event that clearly marked my transition from childhood to adulthood was the truly eye-opening experience of attending a Kairos retreat. For those unfamiliar with Kairos, it is a four-day religious retreat in which you and a small group of students come together to more learn about God, themselves, and others in a setting that completely removes you from the daily distractions and stresses of the outside world. Everyone, including myself, was able to share the personal stories about the struggles that they have faced and are continuing to face every day of their lives and offer support to others that may be going through similar things. We laughed together, we cried together, and we created strong relationships and friendships with people, some of which we hadn’t spoken a word to or even known by
Financial assistance is needed to help me meet my short and long term educational goals. At this time, Gardner-Webb University is my college choice. Gardner-Webb is a private school that better meets my learning style, as opposed to a larger state university. I feel that this college is the right match for me and will provide better opportunities to get involved and fulfil my spiritual needs as well. My involvement with sports, clubs, and summer camps has prevented me from working part time throughout high school except for the payment I receive for one week of camp during the summer. I also chose to take more challenging classes which required more time for studying. Therefore hindering me from contributing to my educational fund.
This is my complete and honest truth. Personally, I feel like my most significant mark of adulthood occurred as a string of events following the last day of junior year. I expected to experience an average teenage summer, sleeping in late, watching my favorite shows, going to the fair, hanging out with friends… all that good stuff. Instead, I spent the months of June, July, and August as a visitor in a variety of hospitals and treatment centers. My mom has battled severe alcoholism for several years now, but last summer was the time when everything just collapsed. I felt forced to grow up because being mature was the only option when my mom needed help.
One hundred and ten years ago, seven innovative men developed the organization Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated, which has since set a standard of excellence amongst college men. As a result, the fraternity has imprinted the world with their manly deeds, scholarship and love for all mankind. Their service has helped mold past generations, is currently transforming the present and will continue to influence the future. I will like to join the immense brotherhood not only to continue setting the standard for my family and myself but also to give back to a fraternity that has had such a tremendous influence on me.
In my opinion the purpose of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. is to better society as a whole through the promotion of sisterhood, scholarship and service to it’s member and mankind. They are constantly evolving and reevaluating the needs of the human race. This is best emphasized in the New Dimensions of Service, which outlines the five targets of the organization as it pertains to service. I believe these targets are realistic, necessary and embody the main principle of Alpha Kappa Alpha and how they are all necessary for the next principle to work. Sisterhood, scholarship and service are principle that I believe I embody and will continue to uphold if allowed membership into Alpha Kappa Alpha.
Most of the time, becoming an adult is planned. There are religious ceremonies, the gaining of a driver’s license, and other forms of new responsibility to signify the coming of age. Sometimes though maturity comes at you like a freight train. It comes at you in the blink of an eye and there is no stopping it once it hits you. You are forced to grow up and take on new responsibilities that you thought you wouldn’t have to take on until many years later. It's up to you though to decide what to do from there. You can either try and run away from the problems you have come to face or you can take the train head on and conquer what has been presented to you. I decided to face the train.
At first I didn’t understand what it meant to be an adult. I was so dependent on my parents for everything that I was blinded by my actual responsibilities. It almost seemed that I was spoiled. I started to feel guilty about asking my parents for some money to go out for the night with my friends or to pay for a football game ticket. That is when I decided that I needed to change something. In turn I thought the best way to do this was to get a job. The transition from childhood to adulthood was made through becoming employed.
Words are so powerful not only because it tell the stories of others but us as well. There are many things that we keep to ourselves instead of sharing our experiences. Among them, we seem to unintentionally hide the process of us becoming an adult. Everyone at one point becomes an adult, however the difference is in that how much a person matured. A person maturity can only be determined looking at one’s experiences and how they were handled. In my case, by earning money, taking responsibilities, and controlling my emotions were my steps to get an adult stamp.
