A successful commander that eliminated an alien race who tried to wipe out the human race sees an older person bullying someone else. He immediately stops this and sends the older person away and takes the younger recruit into his office. He says, “You know I was not always like this, I used to be a person exactly like you…” It was the first day of space academy when something catches the eye of me, Roger, it was a beautiful girl, Rosy, was walking in through the other sliding glass doors. I walk in with my brother, Jimmy, and our helpful robot, Bolts, but do not mention Rosy to anyone else as I see Alpha approach her and started talking to her. I turned away and went to the signups to get it over with so I cannot back out of going into the …show more content…
We were informed on that day October 28, 3000 that an alien race was coming to our planet to eliminate our species. Many people cheered that they would be finished just in time to participate in this war, but I was anything but thrilled. I groaned as Jimmy comforted me and assured myself that I will be fine when they came. I did not believe this and I thought about this day in and day out. I kept on thinking very bad thoughts that I was going to die and never accomplish my other life goals. I trained very hard to compensate for my lack of courage and got quite good. Still I was picked last for the trainings as my brother succeeded and tried to help me. One night he asked me, “Why are you so worried about these things? It is not like anything will happen”. I did not know how to respond to that, all I did was pretend to sleep. My brother still realized that something was wrong, with the invasion coming he wants me to be prepared so that I can overcome my fears. It was going a little better with the fighting, but Alpha still bullied me and I resisted. It turning into a daily routine for me along with other normal things. Jimmy stopped helping me to try and have me do it myself that that has not been going as planned. One month later people are finishing their teachings and are
One day, cutting through the swamp, David comes across the remains of old Indian souls and discovers a skull with jewelry still buried on the bodies. As David kicks at the skull, he hears a voice and looks up to see a black man seated on a stump just looking. The man, wearing a black sash around his body, has a soot-stained face, which makes it appear as if he works in some fiery place. David soon recognizes the stranger as the devil, the black man. Twenty years later we had a family reunion with all my relatives and they started talking about the fire.
Nelson Mandela once said “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.” This quote explains how we must overcome our fears to become courageous and brave. Joan Bauers realistic fiction short story “The Truth About Sharks” tells us this. One day a girl named Beth a 17 year old girl woke up to what she thought was just going to be an ordinary day. She had to go to the store and grab pants for a party. Sounds like an simple task, but not for Beth. As she was shopping she left all of her belongings in a changing room and was going to look for a shirt. She told a friendly salesperson named Hanne where she was headed. On the way she was
Another example of how training proved to accompany courage as "the right stuff" is when test pilot Chuck Yeager was flying the rocket-powered NF-104 when the aircraft went into a flat spin and he lost control of it. While the aircraft was plummeting down to Earth from 104,000 feet at 150 per second, Yeager was able to stay calm and run through all the scenarios that he had been trained in, and then some extra attempts to restart the aircraft and save it from destruction instead of
“You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say yourself, ‘I lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.’ The danger lies in refusing to face the fear in not daring to come to grips with it. If you fail anywhere along the line, it will take away your confidence. You must make yourself succeed every time. You must do the thing you think you cannot do.” That was a quote said by Eleanor Roosevelt.
Even though the drill sergeant told us to keep our heads down, I couldn’t help but peek my head up just to see what is out the window. All I saw was the beautiful blue sky with no clouds in site, and the sun just smiling down on us. The bus stopped at the destination, and I felt my heart stopped as if it was the last time I ever get to see the world. Out of nowhere the same drill sergeant with the mega phone was outside of my bus and started yelling at us with all his might. We could sense fear and terror in the atmosphere as the drill sergeant started pull us out of the bus one by one. The closer I got to the drill sergeant the clearer I got to see every vein and artery throbbing out of his neck and for every word he said you can see them pumping a heartbeat. Once I was able to get my focus from all the scatterings another drill sergeant was yelling at me to run up this hill that look as if it was Mount Rushmore but covered in grass and surrounded by privates but in a far distance look like ants. So I ran to the top acting like it was the end of my life and that I running away from the bulls like how the Spaniards do when they have their annual running with the bulls. Running to the top of the hill was harder than excepted. After finally reaching the top I stopped to catch my breath for my lungs felt as if they’re balloons and someone squeezed all the air out of
hours of sweat and tears from training, I lived in constant fear of failure. Despite my
Whether it’s standing up for a kid who’s been made fun of, talking in front of a large crowd, or even engaging in a new experience, courage is an impeccable character trait which is greatly admired. Courage is what can get you to go places in life, and set you apart from the rest of the crowd. Bruce, a famous martial artist, once said, “Courage is not the absence of fear. It is the ability to act in the presence of fear.” You don’t have to be fearless to pursue your goals, you just have to learn how to push through your fears and weaknesses. This quote can be connected to my life, the arts, and even the world around us.
“No matter how long you train someone to be brave, you never know if they are
I had to have the courage, so that he wouldn’t think about the pain he was in. Another example of courage in my life was in fourth grade when I had to read my essay in front of the whole school. Back then I was scared of speaking in front of large groups of people, but
One time I showed exceptional courage, was when I was asked my Sergeant First Class (Retired) Charles Davis, my JROTC instructor asked me to become the head of our program, a prosition known
Have u seen her lately no not at all she's been I'm just wondering why doesn't anyone believe me is bigfoot taking my dear truly that unbelievable. Everyone that I tell always tell me ‘sure bigfoot stole your wife. People just don't understand when I tell them that. All I wonder is what is she doing the moment is she
I watched the operation on my terminal as I tried my best to remain calm. After each water pod carrying James and his people docked on the Lancer and I was given the sign that all of them were safe, I felt relieved. With such large containers without life supporting equipment and personal supplies in them, there wasn’t need of many water pods to get James and his people on board. Once the pods were emptied, the cleaning program took over and sanitized every square inch of the container. Once that was completed, it started filling up with the Black. It was going to take several minutes to fill just one, but there wasn’t a faster and quieter way to let the captain show his regret of how he has behaved. Now if the good old captain hadn’t
I find the novella unreasonable because of the way the author chooses to end the story. The tragedy of the story is very excessive, and the plot is unconvincing. Maybe If James chooses another end for the story it would be more logically for the reader. The sentences the author uses here is very simple. I felt in the tone of the author that he carries a great hate against women when he describes his heroine.
As I searched around the forest for food, I could hear the birds chirping, the waves clashing, and leaves falling off the trees. When I approached the shore, I spotted three unusual objects in the sea. I waited a while as the objects became visible; they were three massive ships, so immense that no one could believe I saw them. My heart accelerated and I scurried back to my village to warn the chief about my sightings.
I am still in the early stages of my life so i have not yet dealt with any major obstacles, but i'm very positive that in the near future i will be battle tested, but if you just see it as another challenge that will be overcomed, it will not really have any effect on you. As the alchemist tells Santiago, one must take risks and make sacrifices in order achieve success, “You will never be able to escape from your heart. So it’s better to listen to what it ahs to say. That way, you’ll never have to fear an unanticipated blow”. (pg. 129). Never allow your fears to prevent you from taking risks, because it is the little risks and sacrifices that you make, that can make a huge
