With modern television comic books, aliens might seem like purely science fiction. In all honesty they might be closer than we think. If the government were to come into contact with an alien signal keeping it out in the open to the public would be one avenue to go. One reason to not to classify the message would be for collaborative purposes. If we are unaware of the contents of the message, having as many of the best minds available would greatly increase the likelihood of solving any complications. Not classifying the message would ensure that no stone be unturned. Another reason would be to have a continuous watch on the message. Countries can only have so many telescopes in so many spots around the globe. The corporation of the use of other telescopes would be needed to receive a message that was longer than what one telescope could receive in a given time period. The proof of knowing that alien life exists would cause several emotions in all sorts of people. Many would be scared, some thrilled, and others ready to fight back. Releasing the message could cause turmoil within daily lives and life as we know it would be forever changed. Another reason to keep the message under raps would be to keep people from sending a message back. The International Academy of Astronautics has protocols in place that prohibited anyone who receives a message to respond to it, but these are just protocols and not actual law. The practicality of stopping someone with the right technology would be close to impossible. These feelings are all brought up because we just do not know what alien life would bring us.
