Magazines are popular item in the United States. They can be found in stores, offices, houses, and more. They are very popular for advertising. Television, news, radio, billboards and online are just a few of the forms of media companies use to advertise their products or services. The ads manipulate consumers in different ways which can be either positive or negative. The companies use their ads to influence the consumer to either buy or use their service.
One of the ways advertisements influence consumers is through visualization. Colors play a big role in drawing in consumers. “According to Danciu, the primary colors like red, yellow, and blue tend to emphasize simplicity as well as speed. The secondary colors are created by mixing two primary colors together. These colors include green, orange and purple. The tertiary colors can be created by mixing secondary and primary colors together. If they want to manipulate the consumers, the advertisers are mixing the images and colors together in such ways that can persuade and direct the consumers to purchase the product by deceiving and misleading them.” Colors have emotions linked to them so Danciu is saying is that companies can mix the colors in such a way that it grabs the consumer’s attention and persuade the consumer into purchasing their product. People often make judgements based on color, whether it is race or colors of the rainbow, so the concept of mixing colors to persuade a consumer is not far-fetched. “According
For example, in the Facebook Advertisement, a couple visuals were used along with some text to convince the reader to either buy the product or take further consideration into buying the product. One of the persuasive, visual techniques it used was color choice. The background is filled with a blue color, which is often a color associated with security and the sensation of being safe. This helps convey one of the messages of the messages of the advertisement: the Tase-let will keep you safe and secure when you’re in a possibly dangerous situation. This isn’t the only persuasive technique that involves color. One of the distinguishing colors of the colors shown in the visual representations of the Tase-let is red, which is used twice. Red usually conveys a feeling of power and strength. This helps make the advertisement effective because while giving the audience a feeling that the product will make them feel secure, it will also give them the feeling that the product will make them more powerful and in control of a situation that they might end up running into. The images of the Tase-lets and the example of a person wearing the Tase-let also follow the rule of thirds, where the first third displays the product and the second third displays an example of that product in use. The words written at the bottom of the Facebook ad also contribute to

In today's society, we as consumers are exposed to media on a daily basis. Beginning the day with a glance at the daily newspaper and finishing the evening with a television program, the average person cannot escape the clutches of the media in its seemingly endless forms. Along with presenting objective information that includes local news, weather, and sports, a main function of modern media is advertising.
Advertisements work in such a way that we grow to envy those we are not; they exploit our perceived flaws by displaying a person who is the living and breathing version of who we wish to be. John Berger in his book, Ways of Seeing, explains that publicity works by convincing his reader that advertisements use envy to entice the public to buy products: “Publicity persuades us...by showing us people who have apparently been transformed and are, as a result, enviable” (131). Though Berger published his book in 1972, his arguments about envy and publicity still hold truth, perhaps now more than ever. Furthermore, the more present advertisements are in our everyday life, the more envious our society becomes. With the power of envy, those who fall under its spell become choiceless, and therefore powerless. Berger also argues in his book that there is a correlation between the number of advertisements we see and the less freedom Americans possess. However, Berger believes that capitalism hides this powerlessness with the illusion of choice: “Publicity helps to mask and compensate for all that is undemocratic within society” (149). This idea Berger has relates not only to the advertisement of products, but also to present-day politics. Withheld information creates power using envy which is used in both advertisements and the US government. As more envy is created with modern day technology, and we become more immersed into social media, the further we stray from democracy.

Every day, companies present the people with advertisements everywhere they go. Advertisements have become very prevalent in today’s society nowadays focusing in on a negative connotation. Advertisement has become an effective way for producers to display their new products. In present day, they come in forms of billboards, flyers, e-mails, and even text messages. It is widely known that companies create advertisements to persuade people to buy specific products or goods; however, it is not widely known that advertisements can make a negative impact on today’s society. The companies manipulate people’s mind and emotions, swaying people by new promotions and therefore generating a strong desire to fit into the society, that causes them to make inessential expenditures. Advertising influences our everyday lives. Many advertisements today use offensive tactics. This technique is used to capture the audience’s attention, not necessarily to sell a product. Kilbourne in “In Your Face…All Over the Place” Advertising Is Our Environment” talks about “how advertising is our environment” (89). Advertising is more than just selling a procut. According to Kilbourne “Even more important, advertising corrupts our language and thus influences our ability to think clearly” (101). IN the Old Spice advertisement for body wash, smell like a man, man, the ad depicts an idealized body image and idealized masculinity for men. According to Old Spice, the ideal man is strong, adventurous, dominating, and can easily seduce women. Old Spice is using sexism to promote its products.
Magazines: Magazines also offer advertisers an opportunity to incorporate various new techniques and ideas. Magazines are one such form of print media that give a more specific target group to the client. The client can make a choice of the particular magazine as per the product.

Magazines can be a pretty good way to catering to a particular target audience. Most magazines or newspaper at least about 30% of its audience is older than other forms of media where TV has younger and older audience. All magazines are simple general interest magazine, meaning you “Read what you like” if you are in to car’s you will read a car magazines or any other interest. Due to this fact, it is possible for a company to place something in a magazine that they know it will reach its actual target audience. By doing this it cutting out many of the sets of those audiences that would not even give an ad another second of their attention this is what TV and Radio are missing, Magazines are often kept for months. Your message keeps selling. Excellent picture reproduction quality and the paper are far superior to newsprint.
Advertisements can do a large amount of things, but the main thing that it does is relay a message to a desired group of people. The advertisement may be trying to sell a car, or a certain type of food, but it will always target a certain type of people. This is evident with medicine commercials, which mainly target the elderly. The advertisements I am going over do not just target one specific group of people, it covers a large amount of people. The first one was made back when television was becoming a mainstream device.
