Advantages of a Fraternity I was never a fan of fraternities. At first, I thought people who joined were just after the impression of other people that they look cool because they have a fraternity. In addition there are alot of hazing issues reported on media, which tells people that joining a fraternity is dangerous. Despite the negative stigma against fraternities, the majority of the society will never truly know how fraternities teach individuals to appreciate hard work, support and help each other, and develop social organizational, and study skills. Initiation teaches individuals to appreciate hard work as well as balance their time and work with a team. Initiation is the action of receiving someone into a concealed organization, typically with a ritual. The problem is most people associate initiation with hazing, which is not all the time true. Ofcourse there are advantages and disadvantages. Being in a fraternity means that you are brothers aiming for the same goal. Members learn the true spirit of brotherhood, loyalty, equality and service. Although most of these values are taught in our families, members get to know the deeper meaning of each values. I am not saying that fraternities are more important than families. In a fraternity members are constantly taught these values, which families are not able to do because they are not always around especially during college. This is the purpose why fraternity brothers are around. Not to mention, the support also coming from the alumni. Members establish strong connections which will not only benefit them in their college life but also even when they already finish college.
