The focal point of education has always and will always be centered on students. The majority of an educators career is spent developing curriculum and learning new strategies and methods to help make students more efficient academically. Throughout the career of an educator the thoughts of evolving their own way of learning can become an afterthought. It is important that educators are involved in professional developments that pertain to the andragogy of adult learning and how the educator can apple better understand themselves and how they best learn and become efficient. This mentality can formulate through expectations from administrators, from conversations with other educators, or simply through the level of expectation that are being placed on educators from a state and federal level. As an individual who looks to create and deliver a professional development for colleagues or other educators one must understand how adults learn and decide on how to best reach each individual and place them in a position of learning something new and bettering themselves. Adults and children learn in a very similar manner, but the difference between the two is there self-concept of relying on oneself as an adult compared to learning through and from others as a child (Knowles, 1980). Concepts such as preferred learning style and relationships are a crucial factor for both adults and children, and this claim lays true to the adult learning theory of how adult learners retain and present information in most only how they develop and build on relationships with students and colleagues. There are four concepts of Andragogy they can influence the effectiveness of building strong relationships, learning new material, and presenting information to others on and off the job (Knowles, 1980). Rather than denigrating the past as irrelevant, it highlights it as essential (Graham, 2017). When working with a wide variety of cultures, ethnicities, and genders a perception for each can culminate into misunderstandings and biases that lead to ineffectiveness on the job and in the classroom. Take for example, a young and inexperienced classroom teacher that is hired into a low performing school, this teacher may struggle with classroom management or gaining the trust of students. This teacher may perceive the students as uneducated, not willing to learn, and may develop a feeling that they cannot instruct these types of students, while a teacher that has more experience and confidence in themselves is able to effectively and efficiently instruct the same types of students. In this example experience and self-concept are a major factor that creates a bias for a teacher. If this young teacher is able to move pass their biased beliefs, deepen their understanding of the students in which they have been positioned to instruct, embrace their experiences, and receive support from more experienced teachers or administrators this teacher can become effective while working with
