Information can be used to guide the educational process, learning theories that are useful to health education and clinical practice. This writer use two theories in daily life practices .1 control theory :AS once said by William glasser ,’’ We cannot control anyone besides ourselves , we cannot ‘make’ students to do anything, but we can influence them to do things that lead to better behavior and increased success’’. this motivational theory proposed by William glasses that behaviour is never caused by an outside stimulus and response ,control theory states that behaviour influenced by what a person wants any time given ,love ,power ,freedom ,survival or any other basic needs, according to Glasser if students are not interested to do their homework ,because they see school work is irrelevant to their basic needs. Adults are motivated entirely different in the way they learn. Adults are motivated to learn for various reasons such as professional development, potential advancement at work or simply continuing to improve ones lives, as one gets older. However, it is but practical to consider the ideas on how adults are motivated to learn, what principles of learning works, so that adult educators could likewise respond appropriately.
The theory of adult learning is the assumptions about how adults learn. Emphasizes the value of the process of learning in adults ("Adult Learning Theory," 2007). Malcom Knowles and American practitioner and theorist of adult education defined is as an art and science of helping adults learn ("Adult Learning Theory," 2007). Knowles also defined six adult learning principles as adults are internally motivated and self-directed, adults bring life experiences and knowledge to learning experiences and are goal orientated. They also relevancy oriented and are practical learners who like to be respected when in the classroom ("Adult Learning Theory," 2007). As educators, we need to foster the adult learner’s internal motivation to learn. Develop a rapport with the adult learner, encourage them to ask questions and explore concepts. Some adult learners come with years of experience and knowledge, with this as an instructor or teacher we need to harvest this information and have them apply it to their
Enabling people to learn throughout life and being able to prepare themselves for all of its stages is essential especially when it’s in relation to chronic illness and injuries. This has to be taught in school, home, work and communities. Action is required through educational, professional, commercial and voluntary bodies.
Are people too stubborn and independent to learn once they become adults? The Adult Learning Theory focuses on the difference between how adults learn and how children learn. There are three main central ideas that support the Adult Learning Theory. These ideas or theories are known as andragogy, self-directed learning, and transformational learning. Andragogy is the teaching of adults, self-directed learning is the individual controlling their learning, and transformational learning is the individual learning from life experiences.
Adult learning is having a clear picture of how adults learn and how this in turn affects the program planning process. Many adults are not sure about what they want to do with their lives after high school. There are many programs that will help you to decided, what you want to do with your life. This is where adult education programs can help you decided on the importance of education. There are three content areas that connects with adult learning and planning education within the adult. Knowles state that the adult learner, learns from their experiences. Experiences is how adults live their everyday lives and make concise
Adult learners might know what is essential and useful during learning, but they do not know everything about nursing. They might have nursing information or background, but they still need to focus for their practical learning to acquire new nursing knowledge, skills, and experience. Adult learners might need extrinsic and intrinsic motivations during learning and work.
Describe how you will continue to develop this learning after this module ………….………… Page 7
The learning material should be relevant to their social positions and lifestyle, and because the learning material directly concerns their lives, they would want to be involved in the whole process – from the introduction of information to the outcome. Adult learners zero in to the elements that are of most relevance to their immediate needs and conditions. Those aspects that well give them the necessary knowledge and skill to resolve life-centered or problem-centered learning experiences.
From being 18 to being 31 now, there are some major differences for one an adult learner is goal oriented, adult learners are not just goal oriented but are interested and want to know why they should learn things. These things are explained through David Kolb” who identified a four-part learning process based on firsthand experience in which knowledge is created” (Kolb, 1984). As a learner, I am different than others some people learn through concrete experience, some through
It was insisted therefore, that the use of online continuing medical education (CME) Web sites are to be used instead. This would combine on-demand didactic presentations that, at the same time, would enhance the ability in discussing the education content, which allows them to apply what they learn in real-life clinical situation. What is important would be to make sure that what they teach is being filtered down to the actual practice level. In the real-world context, the clinicians experience adult learning all throughout their careers, and continuous education is vital to improve the way they care for their patients and treat their wounds. This can be done through live lectures, print publications, and online lectures, as well as the help of peers within the healthcare environment for better clinical problem solving and treatment. This evidence therefore, appears to be very efficient and useful in improving the practice and management of wound care through continuous education of healthcare
The goal of adult learning is to advance knowledge and proficiency, and to enhance performance by transferring knowledge directly to work
Chapter five states the individual learning enhancing. It also list categories on how group work helps the individual. The adult learning theory that I believe best addresses schools’ culture and helps in addressing positive organizational change is Moore et al.(2011) theory that states “begin with a climate of respect” (p.238). Building up an atmosphere of admiration is an essential in aiding school’s culture and addressing positive organizational change (Moore, D., Moore, S., Cunningham, P., & Cunningham, J., 2011, pg. 261). I believe an atmosphere where respect is apparent, promotes healthy interactions amongst student and teacher. It initiates attentiveness to learning goals and expectations. Moore et al. (2011) examines an act of respect by meeting and welcoming students at the classroom entryway when they enter class. In addition, Moore et al. (2011)
Adult Education is the practice and teaching of adults. The purpose of adult education is to significantly help humankind by properly preparing adults to more effectively, efficaciously, realistically, and wisely line the epochal markers in earthly existence. Lindeman believed it is a broad and grand purpose. Adult education is implemented for a purpose and takes place in a formal, organized setting. My impression of adult education has changed immensely. First and foremost, the first lesson learned that teaching adults are a separate, intensive, and long debated process. Portions of certain theories learned illustrated below. I have extended knowledge about Meizrow (Transformational Learning) and Knowles (Andragogy). The six key features of Adult Learners are:
