The benefits of acting morally are necessary to live a fulfilling and happy life. When one makes the distinction between right and wrong and chooses to act morally and do what they believe is right, they are reward and ultimately feel good inside. There is great value in choosing to act morally and it is necessary to each person's pursuit of true happiness and peace. Generally, in today's society, the people who make the morally correct choices are rewarded and the people who practice unmoral actions such as cheating, stealing, or hurting others are punished if they are caught. The rewards for choosing to act morally may first appear to be to avoid punishment but there is a deeper reward behind people's quest to define and act morally. The reward for acting morally is an inner peace, confidence, and a positive, self-fulfilling feeling that comes from knowing the action completing was correct. These rewards encourage people to act morally and give …show more content…
Sometimes it is easier to choose to ignore the unmoral action and one's conscience. The whole Nature vs Nurture ordeal explains that it is by nature that people should act morally and by nurture that people have a change of heart. Basically, people want to act morally but may choose an unmoral course of actions that are based on selfish wants or coercion. A person's body often responds when they do something they know is wrong. In this case the person will often feel nervous, shaky, scared, upset, or become agitated, and these feelings can be marked by bodily responses that include increased heart rate, pupil dilation, or blushing. Lie detector tests are based on a person's bodily responses while they are lying and doing something they know is wrong and fear getting caught. People tend to feel guilty when they do something they know is wrong and they fear getting
Is pleasing the customers, and telling them what they might want to hear, more important than being honest with them? When clients ask the company for reports, their main interest should be to get a thorough and comprehensive analysis. If they were only looking for a confirmation of what they wanted to hear, they should not need the research.
I believe that each of us is born with a moral compass, something that regardless of the ebb and flow of life, directs us in a subconscious manner. An individual's belief system is intricately constructed over time, by many extraneous factors. We are all models of clay, waiting to be molded into whatever is thrown our way. We often come around people practicing 'situational ethics' that is resorting to only those principles that seem most favorable for a particular situation. In my point of view, ethics ought to be derived from stability. There should be some unyielding values inside each person that should steer him or her in a certain direction, regardless of what a situation demands. If one condemns lying but lies to get out of a particularly sticky situation, one may actually succeed in averting trouble, but this reveals more about one's character than originally considered. Forestalling the scenario once may be a petty triumph, but it surely would not cushion a person's sense of dignity, and that would be too big a price to pay for momentary comfort.
In this case, Russell is in Mr. Willow’s eighth-grade biology class. After scoring a 72 percent on his first test, Russell’s dad threatens to take away his extracurricular activities. Worried that his dad will take away his social life, Russell decides that he is going to work extra hard on his genetics assignment so that he can improve his grade and get back on his dad’s good side. After hearing that Mr. Willow’s genetics assignment is extremely difficult, Russell is persuaded by his soccer teammate, Luis, to use his brother’s assignment that he turned in to Mr. Willow a few years back that had received a high grade. Thinking about pleasing his dad, keeping his social life, and not getting made fun of by his teammate, Russell turns in Luis’ brother’s assignment as his own. Mr. Willow notices that the paper is not Russell’s original work and embarrasses him in front of the entire class. Given Russell’s age and actions, Russell is in the conventional stage of Kohlberg’s Moral Development, more specifically the “Good boy/Good girl” stage because he is looking to meet other people’s expectations when he is making decisions. For example, Russell used Luis’s brother’s assignment because he wanted to get a good grade that would please his dad. Secondly, Russell knew that if Luis found out that he didn’t use his brother’s assignment, Luis would more than likely make fun of him.
is moral in doing a moral act for a reward, as seems to be implied by this line of reasoning, but I digress.
I believe that is best for all of those involved to deal with ethical transgressions behind the scenes and not in the presence of others. Often times penalizing someone in front of fellow employees can escalate the situation further. Honestly, if it does reach that point, it’s a situation where no one wins. I know in my organization it is dealt with discreetly and then the situation, not the person, may be addressed at the following meeting if our supervisor feels that others need to be aware of what is or is not appropriate. These types of open discussion can lead to better ethical decisions in the future (Ferrell, Fraedrich, & Ferrell, 2013). I try to look at it from both sides, I don’t want to be scolded in front of other and an example
In my recipe for becoming a moral exemplar I believe it is important to have openness, agreeableness, and stability. Openness is a great trait to have because if you are being direct with the customer or colleague, the communication will be better and you are also being truthful. Also agreeableness is another amazing trait to have because if a customer is angry; and you agree with everything they're saying you might be able to calm them down. Which could turn a bad situation into a good one. A final trait to have to become a great moral exemplar is having stability. If you are able to not be under pressure in tough situations, you will be able to think of a solution quickly. Also having stability will help you continue doing what you're
On the other hand although their similarities are close knit; they each have a distinct difference depending on the individual. For instance, recently the complex next door caught fire due to bad wiring. The company put all the tenants up for the weekend because they believed that this is what they ought to do. After the weekend the tenants were told that the situation had been turned over to their insurance company and it was out of their hands. The tenants believe that the company should hold their self-responsible and accommodate them much more.
So I am Chester Arthur, the next president because of an assassination. I have one of two choices: I could either side with my party the Stalwarts or go against the new system of Civil Service, but then the American people would be against it and they would not be in my favor. Then I have the option to do the exact opposite and side with the people for the new system, but if I did that my party would be against and I would likely just be elected for one-term president because of it and be attacked by the “Half Breeds”. Either choice will have dire consequences so I have to choose what side I side with.
Moral Psychology refers to the study of moral development that begins at birth. Moral development can be measured by the five moral foundations; Care/harm, Fairness (equality)/cheating, Liberty/oppression refers to bond with others, cherishing and protecting those sensitive to harm and experience negative emotions towards those who harm. Fairness / Cheating describes choosing a punishment based on shared laws, ingroup or loyalty / Betrayal refers to groups who join together who trust and defend each other. The fourth foundation is Authority and respect follows are hierarchy structure sometimes due to physical force and fear or out of respect. Sanctity/degradation or Purity / Sanctity is the fifth foundation is the level of disgust for things like food and
Typically little children tend to behave this way but some adults use this type of moral thinking in their daily lives. Using this type of behavior is usually due to situations where the situation may be wrong but the action was provoked by the person 's definition of fair or the right thing to do no matter what. The question that may be asked while thinking in this manner may be, “What must I do to avoid pain, gain pleasure?”(“Kohlberg 's Stages of Moral Development”). In this stage, making a decision that leads to a positive outcome clearly shows increase in the hierarchy of moral development that can be seen in level 3!
Realizing Whether or Not Behaviour is Ethical In order to be able to answer this question we must first define what ethics is. Most of the dictionaries and philosophers define it as “a science of morality”; it’s the study of the general nature of morals and of the specific moral choices to be made by a person. And therefore in order to answer how we can know whether our behaviour is ethical, we must find out whether our behaviour is moral.
Ethical behavior is often seen as amoral when used for persuasive purposes. This is possible because persuasion may be used in unethical situations as well as ethical situations. Either way, it depends upon the person who is trying to persuade others. Adolf Hitler is an excellent example of someone who persuaded millions of people to behave unethically. On the other hand, Mother Teresa used persuasion for ethical reasons by caring for the sick and the orphaned, and because of this has impacted an entire world.
This paper is disgusted into two part. In the first past, five related concepts to about morality and integrity which is one of the leadership quality will be critically discussed on the conceptual level. In the second part, life experience will be adopted to elaborate how to incorporate morality and integrity in daily life and causes to reflection.
Individuals have their own different definitions of what ethics entails. However, one thing that all these definitions have in common is that, ethics deals with knowing what is right or wrong. Ethics can be defined as the body of cognition that is responsible for the study of worldwide rationales that determine right from wrong. Many people are inclined to thinking that ethics revolves around their feelings; what they feel is right or wrong. However, this is not the case. Individuals have their own perception regarding particular scenarios or subject. As a result, one’s feelings may deviate from what is ethical. The main purpose of ethical conduct is to govern and guide one’s behavior. Ethical conduct increases the probability that an individual will behave accordingly in certain ways. This is achieved by partly focusing on the actions of individual characters and penalties for infringement. Ethical conduct encourages organization. Without ethical conduct people would do things in their own way based on their own moral choices, which may not be right. (Preston, 2007)
My original goals for this project were to create an engaging presentation, use concrete examples from modern video games, use concrete examples from postmodern philosophers, and describe in detail why moral subjectivism is important. I believe that I was successful in these goals. Firstly, I had many examples of anti-realism in both video games and other forms of media, and I was able to tie in each example to its overaching anti-realist theory. However, I think that I was able to successfully explain the idea of anti-realism, but I do not believe that I explained in a great enough amount of detail why this theory is important in the modern world. To conclude, I believe that my project was successful.
