I have had little experience with both academic and professional writing in my life. In high school, I had received mediocre passing grades in English classes. My professional writing consists of a few emails to colleagues throughout the day as well as disseminating information to my subordinates on a dry-erase board during pre-shift meetings. However, as I continue my education, I am beginning to see my confidence increase as my relationship with writing grows.
As continue my education I have started to overcome some of the fears I have about my writing ability. One such fear is being judged for poor work. By proofreading multiple times as well as submitting my material to the Smartthinking tutors, I can complete assignments with a level of confidence. When I proofread, I am looking through my work to find any spelling, grammar, or mechanical errors (Vandermey, 2012). I also use Grammarly and PaperRater to check my content. Utilizing all of these tools decreases the second fear I have when it comes to my writing knowledge which is fear of failure or poor grades.

A value of good writing is that I can express my thoughts and ideas with clarity, avoiding any misinterpretation from my intended audience. Therefore, some of the attributes of good writing are critical thinking and terminological accuracy (Castaño, Badia, & Garganté, 2016). This will benefit my professional life as I often have to delegate technical and mechanical procedures to other employees via
The Capella University writing process includes four main parts. First, there is a prewriting, which allows the student to generate ideas of what the content of the assignment will be (Capella University, 2017). This step creates the audience and the purpose of the assignment. The next step is drafting the assignment, which allows the student to document the evidence that supports the main ideas (Capella University, 2017). This step is important because it helps determine if the evidence presented strongly supports the topic. The next step of the writing process is revising, which allows the student to make changes that will strengthen the content of the assignment (Capella University, 2017). Revising is another important step that
Analyzing my strengths and weaknesses as a writer is extremely important. Despite the fact that I understand the structure of a good argument, I still miss obvious errors in my papers because I lack the skills necessary to properly proofread my own work. In the future, I plan on spending a large portion of my time
The writing of my college essay was quite a process. Normally for me writing comes rather easy, I do not struggle putting my ideas on paper. At first I thought that this essay would be simple to do and not be very stressful. It turned out to be quite the opposite in fact, just brainstorming was a struggle for me. It was difficult for me to think about my life and how it is special. To me, the events that have shaped me do not seem that relevant, at 18 I had never really payed much attention to how certain things affected me, I just lived my life. eventually , with the help of Mary, I came to the realization that having my summer taken away from me due to a broken foot had really changed my life philosophy, it truly changed who I was and my outlook on life.
I have been writing papers for a long time, but I am by no means the best writer I can be. To unleash my full potential as a writer, I have to review all my old writings. I have to analyze my past writing style so that I can see if there is anything I can do differently. Overall, the creation process of my papers can be better. Maybe taking a look at who I am as a writer will help me improve.
Writing is such an important tool. It has the capacity to empower both the reader and writer. There is even a famous proverb that says, “The pen is mightier than the sword.” That’s why it makes sense for the majority of my academic career to be geared towards the improvement of my writing. There is no denying that there is an infinite number of ways that I can improve my writing. After writing multiple essays for this English 100 Y class, my professor pointed out certain aspects of my writing that I could work on. Two of those suggestions stuck out to me because it seemed as though I was making these mistakes multiple times throughout various forms of writing. One of the mistakes I make is the use of ‘favorite’ words, or words that I use too many times in the same paper; another is that I use choppy sentences while writing my essays.
Scholarly and workplace writing is important in the workplace environment. There are some important key ideas that I learned that writing in the workplace requires more understanding and comprehension in order to convey thoughts and ideas clearly and effectively. Also, I learned that in order to effectively write in the workplace, it is important to critically read the content to build a basic background about the writing content. The purpose of writing in the workplace is to define tasks and actions in order to make things happen.
Throughout my high school career, I've learned a few things about myself and how I write formal and informal literature. one of the things I've learned was that, I write better papers when I have a strict guideline on how the paper should be formatted. A big issue I face when writing a paper without guidelines is, when I begin to type the essay, i have no structure to build off of. Being that structure is very important to me, another element that I must account for before starting an assignment is an outline. The outline assures me that I will not experience writers block while i’m in the stages of crafting my first draft. when it comes to different forms of writing, one particularly area I struggle in is analysis essays. the reason
A learner’s ability to communicate effectively through writing to his/her target audiences is a major prerequisite for academic success. It is also a major pillar of success in one’s career across all areas of practice. Even though, writing clearly is critical to one’s academic and career success, I have not always loved writing. In fact, for a long time I despised writing. At one point, I had a feeling that my writings skills were bound to remain stagnated throughout my life. However, time has proven that I was wrong. My attitude and outlook towards virtually all genres of writing has changed positively. The various helpful methods I have been exposed to by my English teachers through different grades have helped me
The writing process takes different shapes and sizes for every person. No two people write the exact same way, but describing my writing style can help others to see some basic patterns. Personally, overcoming distractions to find the motivation to start assignments is the hardest part, followed closely by attempting to keep myself on track. I also have several repeated, or recursive, tendencies throughout my process. In the end, it all comes together into one circular system, in a similar fashion to eating dinner at a dining court.
The purpose of this paragraph is to provide an evaluation about the Showcase of Student Writing event that happened last December 5th in which our whole English 120 class participated in. This evaluation letter will also show how we came up with our group’s infographic project and what it meant to us. When we were put in groups and asked to create a PSA Infographic, our group chose to make one about Diversity in America’s film industry. We worked on it for almost three days and got most of our sources from my commentary paper and the rest from other credible sources like one from the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism. Our title was “Welcome to Hollywood, Behind the Glitz and Glamour”. We were able to show that even though
You’re five years old, sitting on your grandmother’s lap as a child reading story after story. Going on a magical journey to a far of place without leaving the comfort of the living room. Flash forward ten years, in your high school English room. You sit with your best friend in the classroom revising your latest paper listening to what she thinks needs work. After that round of revision you go to your teacher for her advice. She has already explained what to do in great detail but you need her constructive criticism to help you finish that concluding paragraph. All of these things are typical if you have been influenced your writing by little things along way.
In today’s business world, effective communication skills play a significant role in problem-solving, increasing productivity and developing strong relationships in the workplace. In this article “The Dullest, Most Vital Skill You Need to Become a Successful Manager”, Walter Chen argues that how a basic ability like writing is overlooked in many times. Chen claims that in order to become “a highly effective and successful manager”, the person should know the principal rules of writing effectively and concisely because only then the manager would have distinct impression towards his entire team (Chen).
Throughout high school, I have been practicing numerous types of writing. Persuasive, research, expository, emails, the list is extensive. However, I have a very limited experience with workplace writing. Through a volunteer opportunity, I am currently exploring educational writing geared towards elementary and middle school students who have an interest in aviation. This opportunity requires me to create lesson plans, informative papers, and concise instructions for the students, as well as my supervisors. While there have been many influences on my writing, I believe the most beneficial experience I have had was enrolling in an advanced placement course. This course pushed me to write in a timely manner, exercise multiple essay and sentence
Academic writing is an analysis of specific academic subject matter and is viewed as a means of promoting understanding of the content (Shih 617). This is done by using deductive reasoning, semiformal voice, and third person point-of-view. Deductive reasoning is stating the thesis early and then following it with supporting examples and details that help readers understand complicated ideas. When writing in semiformal voice, the writer is not using slang, colloquialism, or contractions of nouns and verbs. Academic writing is written in third person points-of-view and should never include first and second person points-of-view. Academic writing’s purpose is to present information that displays a clear understanding of the subject
In my opinion, I feel like the development part of my essay meet more closely the expectations for exemplary writing as described in the rubric because my essay provides concrete examples and descriptions, convincing creative supportive information and also it also addressed the content requirements for the essay. In addition, I also believe my essay is well organized due to the fact I used the method taught in the class about having support in each paragraph. For example, the introduction, the 3 details I will be talking about in my essay and lastly, the conclusion.
