Abraham Lincoln was the sixteenth president of the united states. He was part of the Union Political Party. He was murdered by John Wilkes Booth on April 15, 1865. Everyone in the army called Lincoln “Honest Abe”. He guided the soldiers through the rough years of the war. Sources say that Abraham Lincoln was one of the greatest president in history. He was the best president except for John F. Kennedy. Kennedy was a special person and he was the best president in our history. While he was president he had to take charge in everything that he did. Know one thought Lincoln was being to ruthless in what he did during the war. (White House.gov)

Was born on February 12,1809 in the Hodgenville Kentucky. He was killed by John Wilkes booth on April 15,1865,Good Friday, at the age of 56. Abe had 2 siblings ,1 sister and 1 brother, and had 4 kids with his wife Mary Todd Lincoln. He served as a president for 2 years and faced reelection in 1864. Although he only had 3 months of military service he led the United States through the civil war. His sister Sarah died at the age of 20 and his brother didn’t live for more than 3 days. Not only was Abe a president and a war hero but he also was a lawyer. He was the 16th president and he was a republican.

He was then elected into office as a state legislature of Illinois. Abraham continued to work his way up the chain of politics until he was elected as president. Lincoln lead the Union through a tough time during the civil war. When running for presidency he ran against Stephen Douglas, John C. Breckinridge, and John Bell. He lost five elections before becoming the President of the United States in 1860. Even though he was not an abolitionist, he believed slavery to be a bad thing. When Abe was elected it coincided with first secessions of the Southern States from the Union. Until new information comes through we shall return to original programing.

He is best remembered for his very important role as the leader in preserving the Union during the Civil War and beginning the process that led to the end of slavery in the United States. He is also remembered for his Godly character, his many speeches and letters, and as a man of humble beginnings whose determination and perseverance led him to become the nation's 16th president.

Many of the southern states were unsupportive of Lincoln becoming president because he had run on an anti-slavery platform. This is where he earned his nick name of Honest Abe. He was known to help the common man. He met and married a woman named Mary Todd. They had four sons. One of which passed away with Typhoid fever. He was shot by John Wilkes Booth in Ford’s theater on April 14, 1865 and died the very from a gunshot to the head. He never lived to see the Union win the war with the plans he helped devise. He next day is known in history for his moving speeches. Two of the main speeches are the Gettysburg Address and the Emancipation Proclamation. Both of these are remembered today as turning points in history. Honest Abe was not only our president but a leader in that he felt like he needed to protect our constitution and the rights it afforded us but also protect the Union. He was a level headed man in a time of war and conflict. He was elected to office when the Union was in a state of unrest due to the issue of slavery. Several states succeeded when he was elected to office. This set up a series of events that lead to the beginning of the civil war. The steps that he took forever changed the history of the United States.
