Abraham Lincoln was our 16th president in U.S. history and most familiarly known to be on the back of the penny. He was a major key figure in the Civil war and helped abolish slavery also give rights to the slaves in the South. What he did during his life was a series extraordinary accomplishments and his assassination was an extremely important event in time and still has left a dramatic effect on the United States. When Lincoln had grown up a good bit he tried to run for illi state legislative but lost. February 20th Lincoln’s son dies of a fever. During the Civil War Abraham Lincoln was on the Union’s side -- they wanted to abolish slavery-. On November 6,1860 Abraham Lincoln who declared “Government cannot endure permanently ½ slave, half free....” is elected president, the first republican. He receiving 180 out of 303 possible electoral votes and he also had 40% of the popular vote. March 4th, 1861 Abe Lincoln delivered his inauguration speech. Two years later on August 10, 2163 Lincoln meets with Frederick Douglas to help the Union in full “Negro Troops”. On November 19, 1863 Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address. The Gettysburg Address was 272 words and was delivered on the battlefield at the National Cemetery of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. April 15th Lincoln has a proclamation calling for many thousands of men to the Union Army. On April 19th, Lincoln creates a blockade on Southern ports. July 4th, Lincoln gives a speech to Congress calling for more men so Congress calls for 500,000
