Did you know that there are 1.1 million abortions in the US each year? How about that 51% of abortions are performed on women less than 25 years of age? Although having an abortion is something no individual would want to think about, nearly 1 in 4 of pregnancies end in abortion. Due to the major social and emotional implications that come with abortions, pro-life and pro-choice opinions are passionately debated amongst politicians. Planned Parenthood was founded in Brooklyn, New York in 1916 by Margaret Sanger, Rania Mindell, and Ethel Bryne. These women all shared the same values that women have the right to decide when and whether to have a child, and to make it more accessible for many women. The current mission statement to Planned Parenthood is “believing in the fundamental right of each individual, throughout the world, to manage his or her fertility, regardless of the individual’s income, marital status, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, national origin, or residence.” There are now over 650 health clinics in the United States providing numerous services for nearly five million men, women, and adolescents.
During the 2012 election, Ron Paul was selected as a presidential candidate to represent the Republican party. He firmly stands behind the belief that life begins immediately after conception. Paul released a pro-life video advertisement in 2012 to support his ideas on this social issue, reaching out to unify his intended audience, pro-life advocates. In
