The strange elements in the story “A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings” by Garcia Marquez can best be defined by the magical realism that states “the capacity to enrich our idea of what is ‘real’ by incorporating all dimensions of the imagination, particularly as expressed in magic, myth and religion” (Benet’s Reader’s Encyclopedia). Thus the ordinary is joined with fantasy in way that invites the reader to accept both in trying to make sense of the text.
