National Honor Society Entrance Essay The National Honor Society was established to recognize and foster excellence beyond the classroom in areas of leadership, service and character. The National Honor Society is a prestigious organization that I, as a student, am striving for acceptance. At the end of seventh grade, I was accepted into the National Junior Honor Society and ever since then I have had my eyes set on the next level of education. I have had outstanding grades throughout my academic career, which has taught me leadership and how to show my service to the community, all while building my character into the person I am today. Ever since I was little, my sister has held me to high academic standards to see if I would be able to achieve higher scores and obtain more awards than she did when she was in high school. One of her highest student accomplishments was being accepted into the National Honor Society.

College is said to be the best four years of one’s life – as long as one can has exceptional time management skills. I strive to efficiently balance my activities and school work. Despite all the extracurricular I partake in now, lacrosse has taught me a lot. Spending ten hours a week, excluding games, on the field left me too drained to complete my homework. During my second year of playing, I learned how to effectively manage my time while attending practices and club meeting.

The time and effort I have put into each and every day to shape who I am displays my dedication. Growing up, I had a vision of who I wanted to become because of the influential people who surrounded me. As my current chapter is coming to an end, I realized I obtained my goal; I have managed to play every sport that interested me. My goal led me to play my three favorite sports, all four years of high school. Along with my athletic abilities, I have managed to maintain a spot in the top ten percent of my class, which made me eligible to participate in National Honor Society.

The future leaders of America, also known as millennials, are quite a controversial topic on their own. Many leaders currently debate on issues regarding this generation. Topics such as schooling, controlling communication, and how to discipline top the list, but in general these issues just become larger. Millennials are stereotyped as quick with technology. Along with creative minds and quick thinking, this tool come in very handy with the recent outbreaks in technology. The problem stands, however, that this group of students are severely lacking in terms of communication and understanding of culture. Many employers are finding that this shortcoming creates major issues in the workplace. (find a better source for this and expound). At birth, infants were found to be somewhat hyperopic. As they grow older and begin emmetropization, a portion of children begin to acquire myopia. The amount of children with myopia increases from 2% at age 6 to 20% or greater at age 20. 1 The prevalence of myopia reaches a peak of 30% between age 20 and 40. 1 After the adult years, it is believed that there is minimal change in refractive error. Corporations are changing how they structure and evaluate philanthropic partnerships and fewer and fewer organizations are opting to donate through traditional methods. Social entrepreneurs are even integrating philanthropy into their business models. Just consider, big names such as Toms and Seventh Generation and newer start ups like Bombas (a sock company that donates socks one-for-one for every pair they sell). Ever since I was a young child I have always had the utmost respect for The United States of America and all of the brave heroes that keep our country safe across seas and in our homelands. When I think of a hero the first thing that comes to mind are the men and women who have served or are currently serving in our military. All of our soldiers have the courage, dedication, and bravery that we all should strive to imitate. The amount of sacrifice that they make often goes overlooked in today's society. Another hero that protects our countries homelands are the men and women of the police force. The police officers also put their lives on the line everyday trying to protect all of us. Police officers have been under a lot of scrutiny over the past years and it saddens me that they are not getting the respect they deserve.
