In A Dog's Purpose the main conflict is centered around a dog who reincarnates several times in order to search out and discover what a dog's true purpose is, and what makes the life of a dog - and his owner - meaningful. In his first life he is Toby, a mutt. In the second, he is Bailey, a Golden Retriever. In the third, he is Ellie, a femal this time around, much to his surprise. In the fourth and final reincarnation he becomes a black lab called Buddy. Each time he is reborn and thrown into a different lifestyle, where he learns more and more about the lives of dogs and people, and how they relate and intertwine. By the end of the story he believes he has succeeded at his goal and is content in finding his purpose in life, and knowing that …show more content…
He also quite heavily relies on the use of adverbs in order to paint a detailed picture for the reader in order to understand what the protagonists and major players are going through. Each chapter both begins and closes with a a high degree of suspense, in order to keep the reader spellbound. The author sheds light on human and animal compassion and humor through purposeful and personal choices in dialogue that are completely believable. This technique especially shines in the sections where the dialogue reads plausibly in the tone and style that one would want to think their beloved family dog would indeed be speaking in, if only they could talk. His use of characterization is fantastic and is both realistic and poignant. There are absolutely no flat characters in this story, instead it becomes possible for the reader to relate to the many different circumstances and feeling evoked throughout the …show more content…
Each time he encounters it, the dog is able to pick up on the sadness around him. For example, there is a noticeable sadness wafting off of Jakob, though it is fixed when he enters into a new relationship and seems to be attributed to lonliness. On the other hand, Ethan, in his old age, is overcome with a sadness for which there is no real cure. This time the dog does what dogs do best; offers his master unconditional love right up until his last breath - an experience that was paralleled by the love he himself was shown by his human in a previous life. In these ways we again see the mutually beneficial bond between human and dog that goes both ways, as while this is a dog's natural instinct to be there for his human regardless of the situation that they are facing, we can conclude that it certainly didn't hurt for him to have that memory of being comforted himself in his last moments to draw from. Throughout the dog's lives you can see that at any point where his human companion is suffering from sadness or grief, there is an obvious effect on the dog, and the dog's clear and sincere desire for the human to overcome the sadness and find a happy place. In other words, if the human is not happy, their four legged companion is not happy either. If the human being is happy and thriving, their canine companion feels fullfilled, joyful, and experiences a sense of contentment that he is
One of the biggest connects with the book and the movie is the connection with him and the dogs. He is very protective and has them as his pride and joy. The expedition was started by George Washington who was the president at the time, sent out Lewis and Clark after the Louisiana purchase, which was when the U.S. had bought A large amount of land from Spain. He sees himself far beyond his peers, and continues to maintain this pace, believing himself to have mastered this passion, or to merely have the physical endowments for it. Before he has passed the sixth bend, however, his lack of form immediately shatters, he drags himself in exhaustion. Once he sees the crowd he passed overtake him and jog out of sight, only then has he realized the necessity of restraint, of sobriety, of symmetry, and, above all, of form.
In the short story “The Last Dog” by Katherine Patterson a boy named Brock goes outside of the dome to explore and ends up finding a dog named Brog. The lesson I learned is believe in yourself and don’t always believe what other people tell you. I liked the “The Last Dog” because it was set in the future. How I connected was that he believed what he thought instead of what everyone else thought. It was easy to connect because he believed in himself.
Out of the three stories, “The Flowers”, “The Dogs Could Teach Me”, and “The Sniper”, “The Dogs Could Teach Me” by Gary Paulsen, applied the best use of descriptive language. Paulsen demonstrates incredible word choice to really help the reader understand the pain he is feeling throughout the story. This gut wrenching, action packed story is all shown very well by the use of description that Gary presented, to the point where he made the reader feel like he was in the main character's shoes. In the story, the main character could not control his dog sled as he was sledding over ice and snow when he soon shot off the edge of a canyon.

To write a good mystery novel takes time and only a few authors have been successful in writing them. Mystery novels has been around for a period of time with historical authors such as Arthur Conan Doyle and recent author Stephen King. In these novels, clues are provided by the author and Christopher Boone, narrator of the novel The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, states, “If it is a good puzzle you can sometimes work out the answer before the end of the book” (5). In relation to this, the most valuable information is typically gained throughout the process of the investigation rather than the solution itself. Although the book The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time is not classified as a detective story, the plot still goes through an investigation and shares elements of a mystery novel. The mystery within the story that keeps the novel going is to find the killer of Mrs. Shears’ poodle, Wellington, and in turn, shapes the ending where the audience sees the development of the protagonist, Christopher, through the investigation itself, the journey to London and his overall ability as a writer.

Even though Marley was harmless, his presence made them feel secure.
Our world is founded on good and evil. Humans have grabbed hold of these abstract principles, interpreted them into foundations of government and religion. But there is still a powerful need to understand good and evil, to know whether our world is controlled by gods and goddess, animals, the sun, every single human on earth or nothing at all. With so many ways to interpret our existence, there are billions of ideas, ranging from the inanely simple to the thoroughly convoluted. But Robert Frost’s theory, published in the early 1900s, remains one of the most compelling. In his poem Design, Frost illustrates the contrast between evil the good in nature, and offers his own commentary as to who is truly in control.
Main point one: Companionship is important to have in your life, even if it comes from your dog. When life gets stressful it’s nice to have a companion to play with, take a walk with or even cheer you up. Companionship can be hard to come by with humans sometimes and easily found in dogs. While their personalities vary according to the breed of the dog, one characteristic remains the same, their loyalty. Dogs make great listeners, maybe because they can’t tell you to stop talking, but either way they seem to listen with interest. Many dog owners find themselves telling dogs things they can't seem to tell anyone else. This is what makes dogs good therapeutic animals. A dog is an especially good animal for someone who lives alone or suffers from depression. Having a dog present can also help people who have suffered a tragic loss in their life and need the company of another life for comfort. I know from my personal experience of losing a loved one, what a dog can do to help you through. Owning a dog gave me responsibility at me weakest and gave me a
I would consider Sister to be flat. Her character stays the same during the entire story. She constantly questions and denies, what people tell her is true. She continues to act like she knows more than everyone and she believes that her conclusions are correct.
is full of figurative language. Almost every device, if not all, is used to help the reader better understand the extraordinary experience that the narrator lived. One of the first things I noticed about the book was the amount of imagery that was included. Now, while imagery typically helps the reader by painting a mental picture, it seemed to have more of a hindering effect on me. I found it hard to imagine what was being described by the narrator, and the majority of the words that were being used for foreign to me. When the narrator attempted to explain his whereabouts and daily activities, I found that I was very confused. However, when I began to notice all of the similes, I quickly started to develop a better
