In the book Where the Red Fern Grows there are not to many differences to the movie. The differences are as subtle as leaving out an unimportant moment or different speech. The book and the movie were only made a little after each other. The movie was made a little more in the days it was made to be more liked by the people watching it. One huge difference in the movie is the beginning does not start the same.

At the beginning of the book it starts with explaining his life now and then transitions into his life as a child. In the movie it starts out with him as a kid and does not revert to his grown self at all. In the movie he only goes half way and does not have to travel that far in the first place. He travels a little past his grandpa's shop and the people meet him the other half. In the book he travels all the way to there house to get them. Also in the movie he does not wait nearly as long as it says in the book.

In the book he does not have to leave in secret when he leaves his house. In the movie he wakes up extra early to leave and he tells his little sister to keep the secret. He does not have to keep it a secret and is aloud to go in the book. He leaves early in the book still but not in secret. In the book he does have a conversation with his little sisters but does not discuss the dogs.

One of the biggest connects with the book and the movie is the connection with him and the dogs. He is very protective and has them as his pride and joy. He sticks up for them and is proud and raises then to be the best. He focuses on then till the end. When they die and the red fern grows he knows he raised good pups because of the old native american
