In the movie adaption A Diva’s Christmas Carol, Richard Schenkman explores the theme of charity through differences in motivation. Through early actions and dialogue from the protagonist Ebony, the main character can be understood as a selfish and egocentric diva. This description was a common status that was considered “cool” and acceptable. Ebony can also be viewed as someone with high demands and expectations of others, who cares about nothing more than her social reputation. One example that demonstrated this behavior was when Ebony planned on doing a charity concert in which her intentions remained of social status and money. These advantage taking ideas were common in the 20th century as celebrities tried to become more popular and wealthier.

In the “Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens the main character is Ebenezer Scrooge. Scrooge is not a very nice person, he is full of greed, he is selfish, and he is prideful. Scrooge is a very successful businessman, that makes wise decisions to keep his business running. Scrooge was very greedy, he would not donate to any charities for the hungry, and caring about nothing about money and what option is cheaper. He is selfish because he gives his assistant a very low salary and is rude to everyone in his path. He shows how prideful he is through his wealth, he thought that people that were poor were lazy and good for nothing and that because he had more money than him he was better than them.
In the story “The Semplica Girl Diaries” the narrator who is a father of three, consistently faces the struggle of trying to fit in and keep up with society. He does this by constantly pursuing to become wealthier so he can flaunt and show others he too can be amongst them. This is the on-going struggle he faces and one he believes is the key to being socially accepted. For he isn’t necessarily neglected by society, but he definitely isn’t seen as someone special either, which is what he strives for. This is the constant battle he fights throughout the story, whether he is well off or not. The belief that by attaining this wealth, he will not only be socially accepted better but will also live a better life. By attaining this, he therefore does more for that place in society as appose to bettering himself and his family. This is shown when he wins the lottery and spends a good chunk of it on his daughter Lilly’s birthday
What is Greed? Greed is when one becomes so selfish about one or more objects to care about others. This is Mr. Ebenezer Scrooge’s life. Mr. Scrooge is the main character in Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol. He is a lonely, money-loving, greedy man. There are many versions of Mr. Dicken’s A Christmas Carol, but in this essay only e two of them will be used, the drama and the 1984 film. There is many similarities and very few differences in the drama and the film.
#1. A Christmas Carol takes place during the time of the Victorian Era, the years of 1837-1901. We learn that the Cratchits live in a town called Camden Town during this time. Camden Town is located in an area of northwest London. Charles Dicken’s (the author of A Christmas Carol) family lived at 16 Bayham Street in Camden Town.
The reckless lifestyle portrayed in the novel overshadows the less fortunate, focusing heavily on extravagant parties, excessive spending, and disregard for the consequences of actions. The actions of the characters and the novel set up create a powerless and voiceless sense of purpose for the less fortunate. When drawing attention to the forgotten characters and people in today’s society, it sheds light on the inequalities and issues that occur in our society today. It makes us feel the importance of reflecting on the impact of our actions and how they can affect another person or

marriage and gender roles. In the case of A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens wants readers to see how living a life that radiates love and promotes happiness is better than being selfish and living a miserable life, and how past circumstances heavily influence who we are as people. The two messages both authors want readers to take away from the story, although different, achieve the takeaway through the utilization first person narration.
The film, “A Christmas Carol” seems to have more film adaptations than other plays in the English language. The live actors and the Muppet have interpreted the book since 1901. A person who has watched this film over the holidays and around Christmas is likely to comprehend this story easily. “The Christmas Carol,” 1951 movie has been the best-interpreted movie and for this reason, it has been successful compared to the play. After watching the film, I have to admit that the play and the SCUF adaptation have not been successful as the movie “A Christmas Carol,” in 1951.
Some of these may be very scary and some may only be mildly scary. It
The timeless theme greed was shown throughout Ebony Scrooge and how she treated her manager, her crew, and old bandmate Marli Jacob. In the movie, Ebony treated her manager and her crew poorly in many different ways. She only valued fame, money along with success and she never bothered contacting her family. Ebony’s crew was also overworked and rarely received holidays off. This shows that Ebony is a selfish and inconsiderate person. Her uncaring character successfully helped to develop the greedy theme in the story. Secondly, Ebony did not treat her crew fairly. In the film she lived in one of the most elegant and lavish hotels in town, on the other hand, her crew lived in one of the most dreadful motels in town. This part of the story also validates the themes of the film. Ebony as a celebrity wanted to show off her wealth and capability, so she decided to live in a five-star hotel, however, she left her crew behind in the dark thinking that she was more superior than everyone else. This situation was very comparable to some events in the early 2000’s. During that time period, most of the superstars had a habit of being a “Diva”, which means they were not charitable and they loved to show off there wealth and power in an atrocious way. As a result, they were disliked by a majority of people and most of the celebrities resented
about it (Gaskell 18). James, who is another servant, tells Hester that she has mistaken “the wind soughing among the trees for music” (Gaskell 17). Hester must force Agnes, by way of rank, to reveal that it is believed that the dead “old lord”, plays the organ (Gaskell 18). Miss Furnivall is first connected with the music, when Hester claims that she thought it was her playing the organ (Gaskell 18). Being that Miss Furnivall is deaf, and is therefore an unlikely musician, this insinuates that Miss Furnivall is connected to this problem. However similar to “A Christmas Carol”, the music is suggested to be derived from ghostly means, because the organ is found to be broken inside, therefore unable to be played normally (Gaskell 18). This thought is later underlined when the child, Rosamond, goes missing, and ghosts threaten the household, further emphasizing that a problem exists (Gaskell 20,24).
