In the play Macbeth, the three witches are most responsible for all of the tragic crimes committed. The witches planted the seed of ambition into Macbeth’s mind, manipulated him by telling twisted truths and tampered with the natural order. For these reasons, they are most to blame and without their interference there would be no story.
While the witches are this supernatural force, neither human nor completely extraterrestrial, they represent much more than that. I think they represent free will in that they provide all this information, but in the end, it is the sole person who decides what they will do with that information. When reading about the witches in Macbeth, I think they still speak to the idea that we are given information about what is to come in our futures, perhaps from psychics or clairvoyants, but it is up to the individual to take that information and do with it what they will rather

When the witches appear in a different scene, they inform him about his future ruling. This leads to Macbeth’s false hope, in allowing him to believe that he is invincible.
