I am going to kill myself, has that thought of committing suicide ever crossed your head? Self-destruction, taking one's own life, killing oneself, they all have the same meaning the action of killing oneself intentionally. I think suicide holds different meanings to people such as a mistake, a cry for help, a desperate action. At the age of 10 years old was the first time I heard about suicide. One cold night, I believe around the beginning of December, my parents received a call stating that my cousin had committed suicide. I lived in Mexico at the time and I did not know how to react to the situation. At first I was excited because we were going on a trip but then when we arrived to my cousin’s house it all changed. As I looked around I felt like the hairs behind my neck stood up and got as hard as needles. All I was able to see were sad, confused and depressed faces. I found out he hung himself in his room. I did not know what to do, all I asked was “why did he do that?” in a really passive voice. I never really got an answer and now that I am older we never bring the topic up. When you think about it, suicide, does not seem like a big deal among college students due to the fact that it is never really talked about in the media. Suicide has become a serious and critical national issue between college students that we should take into consideration.

Every year there are thousands of teens dying, not from cancer, getting shot, or car accident, but by their own hands. Teens make the choice of committing suicide. I have known many people over my short 16 years of life who have wanted to kill themselves. I’ve been in the position to end my life many times, had best friends die, and watched them die. I believe the people who commit a suicide are selfish people because they don’t think about their friends and family. When I was in my senior year a friend of mine, Jassey committed the suicide. A day before that we both were working on our government project, everything was great. Next day of school, I was in my math class, doing my warmup questions, and was not listening to our daily announcement. Suddenly I heard that Jassey had committed a suicide, it was shocking. He committed a suicide because he broke up with his girlfriend. His death was so depressing and shocking.
