Letting people in “Whatever comes let it come, whatever stays let it stay, whatever goes let it go”- Unknown. This quote represents letting people in and whatever happens, let it happen. People can show an act of kindness through the little things, fear, kindness and love is all it takes. Below there is going to be three stories which in each story im going to show where the fear, kindness, and love is in each and every story. This paragraph is going to show fear in the 2 stories names “A Christmas Carol” and “Thank You Ma'am” and my personal experiences. In a Christmas Carol there is an example of fear which is when Scrooge and the Future meat up and they have a talk and future shows Scrooge that he will die if he does not show any kindness to anyone, the fear that Scrooge had changed him into a better person. The second is the Thank You Ma'am when Roger gets caught stealing his the ladies pocket book, but in the end of it, his fear got turned into gratefulness because he only wanted money for blue suede shoes and got the money for them, from the lady. My last example is my personal experience when I decided to take money out of my sisters purse while she sleeping she woke up and saw me walking out of her room with money, my sister told me I can keep the money but I can not take money from her again. Those are the examples of fear. …show more content…
In A Christmas Carol, Scrooge give the Cratchits a prize winning turkey without the cratchits knowing, once the turkey arrived the Cratchits were so grateful for the turkey. In “Thank You Ma'am” the kindness is in the story when the lady gives the Roger 10 dollars after he tried to take her pocketbook, that is kindness because she did not have to do it but she did. My personal experience with kindness is when I let my brother have 20 dollars for a shirt he wanted, I did not have to give him the money but I did
People often perceive kindness in different ways, some think of the smaller things and some the larger. Acts of kindness are like wonders of the world they make it a better place. For example mountains some see this grand rock that the sun reflects off of in the morning and others see a glorified piece of rock. Smaller acts of kindness are just as important as bigger ones. Usually when one thinks of the word kindness some act or person comes into mind and my person is Leticia Chavez a.k.a Ducky.
Fear is shown through Arthur Hayes, Gene, and Ralph. Fear is can stop you from being yourself, telling the truth, and doing something you want to do. Fear takes away power, and confidence. In these few books fear shows how effective it can be to others. The book Thunder on Sycamore Street, A Separate Peace, and The Lord of the Flies all show fear within oneself, and how it affects them.
The short story"Aha Moment" by Julia Alvarez demonstrates that the point is not to pay back kindness but to pass it on. The story expresses the idea that simple acts of kindness can make a great impact on people both mentally and physically. It can turn frightening and tense situations into assurance and aplomb. In paragraph 8, it is stated," no one screamed,no one panicked. I could hear small pockets of soothing conversation everywhere." By holding the hands and by chatting about everyday life, the passengers emboldened each other and created an optimistic atmosphere. The author points out,"someone was comforting me and kept asking me,'Are you okay?" According to Julia if someone does something good and beneficial for you, you should pass
Kindness is the source of goodness that leads people to true happiness. People help others because it makes them feel good, it changes the life of another person, and it's in people good nature to do so. One good reason people help others is to make them feel good. Like in the story The Scarlet Ibis the brother felt good for helping Doodle. Doodle wasn't able to walk, so that meant that meant that his brother had to take him wherever he wanted to go.
How Mr. Scrooge was scaring the Christmas carol outside of his office building. He made the little boy sad and frightened because of what he did to him. His action was added into the chain bad deeds he had to mend in forgiveness later in the story. That was one of the many reasons why Mr. Scrooge had to pay for its action That he did. Then the second reason why The Christmas carol is Worthy of its Theme is how Mr. Scrooge does not even consider giving back to the poor Charity.
One example of kindness is when the doctor helped Elie with his infected swollen foot. Elie got sent to the hospital by of the gestapo's because he saw his foot that was swollen so he sent Elie to get cured. “The operation lasted an hour. They had not put me to sleep.
I believe that for majority of people Pre-Conventional (level 1) is what we base almost all of our decisions on. We imprint these concepts into our children from a very young age, we teach them that if they don't clean their room they will lose something, and that if they act and do as they are told they will be rewarded. I don't believe that there is truly very many acts of real kindness. Though some do exist, it's almost the exception to the rules of behavior. We live in a society that thinks if they do something nice for another it must be filmed, or ranted about. You see these videos everywhere some stranger buying a homeless guy a meal, or giving him clothing. If you need so desperately for acknowledgement for doing the right thing, it
Growing up I never really thought about how much kindness could actually change people. We all know how important it is to be kind to one another but I don't think we take into consideration sometimes how much words can effect someone, positively or negatively.. After this tragic event happened I took into consideration the importance of kindness as well as how much people over look the simplicity of it.
In the short story “Thank You M’am,” By Langston Hughes, forgiveness, kindness, and empathy have a positive impact on the main character's life. Mrs. Jones, “a large woman with a large purse,” had a positive impact on Roger, the main character. To help Roger, Mrs. Jones took him home one night after he had tried to steal her purse. He tried to steal her purse because he wanted some new blue suede shoes and he didn't have the money, which we found out later in the story. You may think, why would she help him after he did such a thing? It’s because Mrs. Jones thought farther and realized that there could be a reason he did this.
“Seek the good in others and the best you will find.” In the short story, “Thank You, Ma'am” by Langston Hughes, Mrs.Jones lives by this quote. When a raggedy boy runs up behind you and steals your pocketbook you naturally would think,”he is not a good boy.” Well when this happened to Mrs. Jones one night she had a different approach. She sought the good in others by looking past the bad, giving second chances and kindness. She shows this when she took Roger in and taught him a lesson. From this story, we can all learn the important lesson of seeking the good in others.
“Be kind to one another because you might just change their way of living” (unknown). Just a simple act of care or kindness can change how people view life after they receive a harangue from someone who also went through the same past. In the short story, “Thank You, M’am” by Langston Hughes he creates two well develops character, Roger and Mrs. Luella Bate Washington Jones, when Roger tries to rob Mrs. Jones large purse and fails at trying to
I had seen news stories about random acts of kindness but had never really considered it. This thought it was the best thing in the world, you could visibly see how grateful they were. But the woman who paid, she’s the one I won’t forget. She acted like it wasn’t that big of a deal, like she did it everyday. For her, $11 to help a young, clearly struggling, couple pay for their groceries, wasn’t some big act of kindness that she had to struggle with. She genuinely didn’t realize what was going on until there was $11 left; she told me that if she realized what was happening sooner, she would’ve helped then, but she didn’t
To begin with, “Thank You, Ma’am” by Langston Hughes is a short story that takes place at night. In the story there are two characters; Roger and Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones. It starts off with Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones walking to her home to have some dinner; then Roger comes in and attempts to snatch her purse and pocketbook but fails and instead falls to the ground. Mrs. Jones is outraged and yells at him for what he has done. Mrs. Jones notes that his face is dirty and Roger tells her that he has no one, so she takes him home with her; he wishes to just be let loose but she ignores his request and drags him home. Mrs. Jones tells Roger that he messed with the wrong person; she tells him that in the end he will remember her
Being one in a family of seven means constant trips to the grocery store. Last Sunday my older sister, Julia, and I went to Price Chopper to pick up some lemonade for a super bowl party later that night. As we approached the checkout counter we saw that there lots other people in line before us. It seemed like everyone needed something before the big game started! We got in line and waited a bit in checkout line 5 and then moved to line 6 to see if it was any faster. I think that was my best move all day because the man in front of us in line had a large cart filled (he had really nice hair). He looked at us and then said “You guys only have one item? Here go ahead in front of me.” To which we replied “Oh no are
I received a monstrous amount of gratitude for helping with tasks both large and small. Although I was advised that it was accurate that people should not directly provide homeless people with money because it may end up being used on harmful objects, I became more and more sympathetic to the homeless each day. I learned how to aid them safely and effectively by volunteering in shelters and food pantries and by buying necessities to give directly to people in need. I did feel guilty for my initial feelings, but I was glad that I finally understood what the circumstances were actually like. I became more appreciative for what I had and planned to tell everyone I could about my experiences so that they, too, would feel compelled to lend a helping hand to the
