As a person who considers themselves creative and fun, being an actor seems quite interesting. My job title would be actor/performer. Actors express various ideas and portray many characters from very different backgrounds, and they try to interpret the writer’s script in a way that entertains or informs the audience (“Summary”). I chose acting as my career because as a kid I always thought acting was interesting and enjoyable. I tend to be a very verbose person at times so it is the perfect career for me. It is important, however, to understand the education or training requirements, skills or talents needed, salary and benefits offered, and the duties for a particular career when making this decision. The job is like a gypsy. You don’t stay in one place. The work environment could range anywhere from parks, to theaters, and to various studios (“Summary”). Actors also don’t have set work hours because it depends on how big the project is and how much practice is needed. There isn’t a lot that goes into acting, but that doesn’t mean that it is an easy job. They do not provide a specific training class because the training is long-term. That means that you get better the more you practice and the more you try to improve. Your day consists of auditions, reading and going over scripts, and performing. Some other duties you do are researching your character’s traits, discussing the roles with the cast, and memorizing all your cues and lines. Your average day is just practice
My goal and main objective is to be an actor, that people who feel alone can connect to. When I was really down, I felt like there was no one I could connect to; except for the characters I would see in movies and tv shows. It was the characters that I saw myself in, that gave me hope. The characters actors play bring a new sense of belonging to the people who watch them and that's something I want to payback for the hope I was given.
I remember seeing in the film that before the actual show, the actors rehearsed in a small room. Taymor then chats with them and discusses things they can improve on or make better. She also mentioned how theatre is all of the arts combined. Theatre is music, dance, acting, visual
Acting on stage with the lights, props, and sets is all surreal. But with that being said acting is much more intricate than to just memorize lines and go on stage and recite them with simple blocking. To combine people and ideas, adding natural movements and gestures, to take the playwright's' words and turn them into your own is the beautiful art form of theatre and acting. To be able to become another person, to feel what they feel, to live their life, is very magical and astounding to me. While acting I lose myself, I am solely whoever I am portraying and I take all matters
There are no standard educational or training requirements for the position of producer (CIC 154). Most producers have studied film, video production, or drama at the college level. Many have also trained as actors in dramatic arts schools. People who may be accepted need at least a bachelor’s degree or two years of on-set experience and also must pass written tests. Courses in acting and communications can be helpful. College drama courses in liberal arts, stage speech and movement, directing, playwriting, history of drama, and design and play production can be helpful also. (GIS 1).
“Acting is behaving truthfully under imaginary circumstances” said by Stanford Meisner. Theatre is an area of arts where you can be free from reality and imagine the impossible. Some of my favorite things about theatre are, the people that are involved, how helpful theatre is and how helpful everyone is, then my last thing is how much fun we have. One of my top favorite things about theatre is the people that are involved within it. Every person has a different personalities, that put together makes a new and neat experience. Theatre is an important part of my life and I enjoy every minute, while I’m there.
Theatre today offers a wide variety of jobs, more of which are technical careers rather than the acting side but it is also usually an option to take it in
The first professional show I ever saw was an Off-Broadway production of On the Twentieth Century, starring Kristin Chenoweth. I remember getting swept up and consumed by the music, the dancing, the romance, the comedy, the story, and walking out of the theater astonished by the idea that there are people that do that for a living, there are people that do theater for a career, not just for fun. That is part of the reason that I decided to pursue theater, for the thrill of adventure and I know that I am not going to be doing some boring-ass desk job, but in the future I will get to use the skills that I learn in college to get my degree, and apply these skills to a career that I am excited about. To me, theater means that I get to work with
To begin, you have to take many classes some of these classes include, algebra, English, chem/biology,physics, psychology, history, marketing, tech applications, business essentials, promotional planning, art classes, industrial design, photography and a few more types of classes. After high school, you would have to take four years of College to become an art director. Most of the time, people go into smaller businesses before they actually become an art director. Clearly, in this career path, both education and training are crucial in becoming a qualified Art
A while back, I became a acquainted with the work of the actor Rick Ravanello, and through watching his films and shows, I have met other equally talented and genuinely kind industry professionals. Susan Slome happens to be one that I noticed the moment her character appeared on screen in the Lifetime movie Dangerous Company. Recently, Susan set aside some time to answer a few questions about her path to become an actress, some of her notable roles, and even her perception of the ever-evolving acting industry.
The assistant stage manager (ASM) has a variety of jobs around the theatre, primarily consisting of working for the stage manager and deputy stage manager, and helping them in the running of the production. Job hours can vary greatly between productions, but are often long and unsociable, because while rehearsals and meetings may be held during the day, performances are held during the evenings and on weekends. Wages can also differ between theatre companies and productions; a starting wage is typically between £15,000 and £17,000, but can move up to around £35,000 with experience.
Acting moves me to explore and reflect the curiosities I have for the beauty and the ugliness of the human condition, and the big questions that affect the world. I want to use my passion for acting to be a storyteller, an artist, a communicator, a commentator that provokes thought and creates conversation from an audience through theatre, film, television, song, and radio, on life and on what connects us to the world around us. Acting is therapeutic, so magical, and a great adventure to me; there is not a thing that excites, fulfills me, or that I enjoy doing more than
I have accomplished lots of things in my lifetime. I have accomplished getting a job and getting my license to go to that job. I have accomplished working two jobs one is being a machinist and a referee.
Dreams are truly amazing things. Much like mountains, they appear to be grand and impossible to reach the top of. I am a person who can very easily be pleased- I’m easily entertained, I’m accepting of most requests people make of me, and I’m content to eat anything for dinner as long as it doesn’t still breathe- despite this, however, I have a very large dream that I won’t rest until I accomplish it. That dream is to become an actor.
You will not land a part at first or for the next few months. To find classes or look under specific schools like the Atlantic Acting School or the Maggie Flannigan Studio. Taking a class will keep your head in the game while you sort out finding an apartment, establishing an income and making friends.
My entire life I have been fascinated with film and commercials. As a kid, I would stop what I was doing to watch a commercial. This has not changed through the years. My goal in life is to work in the film industry and work with video. This may have developed from my brother’s short term love for the video arts. Like most little brothers I followed in his footsteps through a lot of things and most of them would not stick. As I grew older I developed my own different ideals and likes. But, video just stuck with me. Even if film production doesn’t work out I have always had a childlike excitement for fighting fires. Being the person to save the day is something that everybody wants to do, but not everyone peruses this dangerous career.
