This letter is meant to be a way for you to get to know me on a deeper level. You are probably using this letter not only to get to know the lives of the students you are teaching, but also to learn about the writing behaviors of your students. So for this purpose I will try to keep my letter short and interesting in order to not mess up. Before we begin I have a quick disclaimer, I am very sarcastic in everyday life so that does show in my informal writing. I am usually professional for most major papers, but for this paper you will probably see my sarcasm. Now that we have gotten that out of the way let’s start this letter.

I can remember my first writing assignment like it was yesterday. The Spring of 2011, I was a Junior at Goose Creek High School in South Carolina. In Creative Writing class with my teacher Mr. Geary, this kind of writing was a new learning experience for me. The first assignment he wanted us to complete was an essay telling our classmates about ourselves and the things that make us unique. It was a paper highlighting key moments in our lives that got us to where we are and who we are.
For this assignment I chose to analyze the genre of billboard advertisements. As very large signs posted in public places, billboards are seen by many people, and therefore must appeal to a wide range of audience. Many can be seen along roadways, although they appear in spaces with high pedestrian traffic like urban areas and shopping centers. Just as they appeal to a large audience, billboards address a wide range of topics. A majority of billboards are advertisements trying to sell a product, but some may be to raise awareness for a cause or to spread public service announcements. The purpose of the billboard depends on the author, which can range from a single individual running for an office to an international corporation marketing a new
Both Etruscan and Roman tomb sculpture function to memorialize the departed allowing them to move on from the world of the living and seeks to comfort those who have lost the ones they love. The two societies have differing practices in regards to death and therefore sculptures concerning the subject are somewhat different with a few identifiable similarities. While both societies seek to comfort the living and commemorate the dead this is achieved through different approaches. The Etruscan Sarcophagus with reclining couple from Cerveteri, Italy and the Mummy of Artemidorus from Roman Egypt are two examples of contrasting representations of the dead. When analyzing tomb sculpture one of the main questions is whether the work adapts a retrospective approach (presentation of the deceased as they were in life) or a prospective one (the viewpoint of looking forward to life beyond the grave). While the Etruscan sarcophagus gives a more retrospective memorialization through the depiction of the couple in a state of regularity the Roman Mummy of Artemidorus presents a more prospective approach concerning the deceased through the emphasis of funerary practices.
My first major assignment was the math exam in math 110. On the math exam I received a 75% these results were lower than what I expected. For all assignments and quizzes my goal is to achieve at least an 80% or better on the assignment or exam. So, when I received the grade of 75 for this exam I was truly disappointed with my results. Even though my grade was only 5% below my goal that still is bad because I did not reach my goal. My expectations when taking an exam are to always reach my goal.
Some things that make an advertisement remain in my memory are: images, words, music (genre and lyrics), words, phrases, people, and jingles. These 6 things can tell me all I need to know about the advertisement as a consumer of the message. These items also give me a perspective of how the messenger views their consumers as it relates to the particulars item(s).
