Have you ever watched a commercial and felt like it was made specifically for you? You may have felt this way because advertisement companies strive to target a certain group of people. These groups can range from children to adults and often target subgroups within the larger group. From cute animals to attractive men and women, advertising is strategically programmed to make the viewer want to be associated with the product. Advertisement companies use many techniques to persuade viewers to become customers.

However, I do not believe that these appeals would work for all people. I tend to like products that offer a fun lifestyle because I enjoy having fun. I like to explore new foods, places, and ideas and I enjoy products that help me achieve those desires. Like any other twenty-two-year-old woman, I enjoy feeling attractive. In our readings, we learned that many woman report being unhappy with their bodies even at a young age. I tend to be persuaded to use products that promise a slimmer body or more beautiful skin. I do not necessarily want to be model thin, but I like to look healthy. Also, products that can save me money are a God- send because I am a college student who needs to save every penny possible.
To conclude, after watching ads for over two hours I have learned that advertising is an effective method of persuasion. I noticed that several ads applied multiple appeals to persuade viewers to buy their products. I also noticed that several techniques were applied to make the viewer more interested in products. Before this exercise, I did not realize that I subconsciously paid attention to advertising on television. In the future, I will try to be more conscious of my buying
With the emerging technological innovation, several companies have adopted different marketing techniques to make themselves popular and gain ground in the competitive market space. The primary message of all four advertisements is to portray the product as needed in an individual’s life and that it is the superior option for a multitude of reasons. The first advertisement suggests that women, primarily although men may or may not take notice of the product for their own use, cannot achieve youthful skin appearance without the product. The second advertisement installs fear and doubt, with the offer of services to dispel those fears and doubts. The third provides a blend of fear, by focusing on men who may be insecure or who wishes to be more manly or perceived in a different light. Instead of focusing on the product itself, it conveys a sense that smoking Camel cigarettes will help transform the man into a manly outdoorsman. Finally, the fourth advertisement offers choice and, in the form of said choice, relief. By focusing on showcasing two unique flavors per pizza pie offered, it allows those who require significant choice options in their restaurant experience to be assured that Pizza Planet offers that choice. As mentioned in the targeted audience portion, this choice is significant for households with diverse preferences when it comes to selecting a restaurant to eat

Based on the AllState Mayhem Guard Dog commercial their target audience is for anyone who needs insurance including homeowners. The Prudential Magnets Experiment targets individual that are close to retirement roughly between the ages of 35-65 to not only think about their past, but also their future. In regards to the Mercedes commercial their target audience would be Class E driver license holders ages 18 years or older.
