Subsequently, following a 12-year absence from school with no sense of direction I have decided to pursue a career in the nursing field to become an RN. When I was younger, I was careless, therefore, I did not have a plan for my future, but my perspective about life is different now. To be successful in achieving a career in the nursing field, I must begin by having a plan to be successful in school first. My first step in being successful in this class is to have a perfect attendance. Another step I must commit to is to stay focused during class and not succumb to distraction. Also, I must build up comfort in asking questions whenever I need help understanding something. In addition, I expect to keep high grades in this class by successfully …show more content…
I know that the only way to attain the information I need to pass this class with a passing grade is to attend every lecture. Staying focused during lectures is also of high importance because that is the only time I will be able to take notes that are not available in the book. Staying focused also means giving myself the time to complete any assignments. Giving myself the time to focus on my assignments per day will allow me to complete them in adequate time, therefore, managing my time with individual assignments is also going to be very important. Another step in successfully passing this class is one of the most important, and that is setting time aside to study. Studying will be the main step to completing this class with a passing grade. If I do not give myself the time to do so, all my efforts will not pay out. Finally, not being ashamed to ask for help when needed will be key to my success. At times, I can feel a bit embarrassed to speak up, which will only affect my grade. Not only will stepping out of my comfort zone be beneficial to my learning experience, I will also benefit in better understanding topics when in doubt.
In conclusion, keeping my head straight and with a positive attitude will be the key to my success. I am positive if I stick to my plan and follow these steps I will be successful in this class. Procrastinating is not an option during the duration of this semester. I am aware that leaving assignments to the last minute will only hurt my grade at the end of the semester. By dismissing distractions and staying focused I know I will be successful in this class. My goal is to follow this plan to pass this class
The final week is approaching and soon my future as a nurse will be determined. My grade in Fundamentals of Nursing is borderline passing and the idea of failure is more realistic than expected. The thought of where I am going to go from here if I do not pass my nursing class is undecided. At this point in the semester, failure is not an option. I do not know if I would retake the class or follow a completely different path. I’m very happy with the nursing curriculum and I enjoy the learning experience, but the exam questions are more complicated than just set in stone only one correct answer questions. I struggle with applying the nursing knowledge to real life situations when the best options needs picked but all could be done.
Nursing is a challenging profession and there are many qualities a person must have in order to be a successful nurse. Simply put, “nurses must have a reliable knowledge base for decision-making, clinical judgment, critical thinking, and lifelong learning” (Hamilton, 2011, p. 16). Likewise, it is well known that the demand for qualified nurses has increased, and with that so has the interest of students to enter this field has also increased. According to the AACN (2014), “RN enrollment has increased every year for the past 13 years, and the biggest limiting factor is instructors and clinical sites.” However, according to a study, “Although enrollments continue to grow the attrition rate nationwide hovers around 50%” (Beauvais, Stewart, Denisco, & Beauvais, 2013, p. 918). This is an alarming amount of students dropping out of their programs, and with it comes many burdens. When a student drops or fails out, the school loses money they would have generated and in addition, a demanded worker not provided. Additionally studies have shown that, “primary reported explanation for student attrition is admission of minimally qualified students to nursing programs who do not demonstrate adequate preparation to begin the rigorous curriculum” (Hamilton, 2011, p 27). In turn, with the national nursing shortage, it is essential we explore
The purpose of this assignment is to help the student grasp the importance of putting effort into their studies. We have the power to either excel in our studies, relationships, and opportunities. In saying that, we can just as easily get side tracked and lose focus of the task at hand. This article is meant to give us advice and show us the path to a successful future; however, the choice lies in our hands.
In my current role as a nurse educator I feel the desire to pursue my dream of obtaining a master’s degree, specializing in nursing education. It has been 27 years since I have sat in the student chair in a classroom; therefore, I anticipate a number of challenges and barriers to overcome. In this paper I will present and describe three challenges that I expect to be faced with over the next two years. I will also discuss the strategies I plan to use to address these challenges.
I am a hardworking student who is highly motivated to go to college and pursue a nursing career. I try my best to be the most responsible person I can be by always completing all the duties and responsibilities that need to be completed. I am able to learn and memorize information in a short amount of time and be able to remember it afterward. These qualities can be very beneficial when it comes to succeeding in college. I am the type of person who does not give up and always tries to find a way out of any situation. I believe I am a very patient person and willing to help anybody and believe this is important when it comes to pursuing a nursing career. I believe the qualities I have developed throughout the years will help me be able to succeed
College is a competitive environment; in order to succeed in it a student needs certain skills. Those skills can only be learned. A college professor mentioned that there five basic rules that need to be followed in order to become a good student: study, do all the homework and the assigned reading, attend class, and, most importantly, develop self-discipline and time management 1. In the following lines, a detailed analysis of those different steps will be done. So, let’s get started.
On August 2015, I started the RN-BSN program with the Transition to Professional Nursing as my first course. I took one class at the time because I was working as a full time nurse at the same time. I did not take a break and started a new class each start date because I wanted to complete this program as soon as possible. The journey has been a long, hard road and the stress was constant and many times I felt that I could not complete it; it has been a difficult but very satisfying journey.
Many nursing students prefer completing their B.S.N-RN programs and enrolling for FNP programs immediately. Some prefer becoming responsible for a home, job, or even a family after finishing their education. On the other hand, others prefer to start their nursing specialty career as soon as they can, rather than beginning with being employed as a general RN for some time. One benefit of nursing students who enter FNP programs sooner is that nursing students who graduate sooner have already acquired the habit of creating time for studying, taking exams and attending classes. Once a nursing student stays out of class for some time, it can be difficult for the student to develop such
The idea of returning to school to master new skills to compete in the workplace is an excellent goal for any working adult. However, it is important for the working adult to understand success is base upon the journey taken and the path chosen by someone. One must realize there will be many barriers and difficulties along the way; however, with dedication, ability to prioritize, and motivation to stay focus, I will succeed and graduate with my Master degree in Nursing in October 2017. For me to be successful in achieving this goal, there are different pathways that I must chose and followed. These are assessing my learning styles, finding ways to manage my time, money, and stress, and setting S.M.A.R.T goals.
This semester in order for me to be successful, I know I have to be discipline in regards to my academic career. In order to be successful, I plan to make sure I set goals for myself. Setting goals will allow me to have something to work towards. By setting goals this will help keep me driven and will act as a record of the advancement I have made. It will also help me to push myself to continue working hard. One of my goals this semester is to achieve all A’s in my classes. In order to achieve this goal, I have to make sure I attend all of my classes. Attending my classes and making sure I am posting on time will keep me in tune with my academics. I also believe it is very important to make sure I know my professor office hours as well and
Upon reviewing the “Best Strategies for success in school” I realize that I now apply many ideas I use to ignore to my school approach such as getting to know my instructors, breaking down projects into more manageable tasks to avoid procrastination, and staying healthy. All the strategies listed are important but the three key strategies that will remain with me the longest throughout my academic career will be to getting help with difficult class work early, keeping most
I am striving to achieve professionalism and growth in roles and values while going through the bachelor’s degree in nursing program. I plan on taking each class one at a time, try to do my best, and gain the knowledge needed to grow in the nursing profession. By October 2010, I should obtain my bachelor’s degree in nursing, which will provide new opportunities, such as management, and educator positions. A bachelor’s degree in nursing will provide the opportunity to further my education to a master’s degree level.
I once heard someone say, “Find something you love to do and you’ll always be successful.” If you want to be in a field where you are continually learning, nursing would be the top pick. This paper will reflect the journey I have taken from Registered Nurse (RN) to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) with the incorporation of my learning objectives from my clinical course.
There are five ways of learning to get a good grade. The most important way is the intention in the class. The intention, you should give precedence to the lesson and use concentration. If you do not understand in the class, you should ask the professor in the class or after the class. The second way, when you have leisure, so you must revise the lesson again for you can understand the lesson. The next way, you should read a book or textbook and skim a book before the class. The punctuality is the fourth way, the punctuality is a good thing for everyone, so you should submit your works punctuation. The last way is studious. The enthusiasm is a thing indispensable for students, so you must attend the class every time; For
Nursing students have been going to school their entire lives just like anyone else getting an education and trying to better themselves as students. We do this not only for those who support us such as our parents but for ourselves. We have been asked this same question from the second we got our first fire truck, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Even as young children we are beginning to make decisions and choices based off the things that make us happy. But realistically at such an adolescent age we are making our choice based on the color we enjoy
