Group you are working with: The group that I will be working with is a group of 7th and 8th graders at summer camp. Problems you encounter (resistance, etc.): The problems that I am encountering while they are supposed to be working on a group project include resistance to direction, continual unnecessary talking during work time, constantly distracting others, and horseplay. Solutions: During the time I’m working with the 7th and 8th graders I will work on some classical conditioning with them. For example, I will teach them that If I clap twice then they repeat the two claps then stay quiet. This technique will help gain the attention of the campers so I could give them directions. I will also carry around a bag of treats for them. For example if I see one of the students behaving particularly well then I will reward them with a treat. This technique will work because if some kids get a treat because they are behaving well then the other students will then start to behave well in order to get a treat. Another technique that I think will work for my campers is behavior modeling, I think this technique will work because my camper look up to the other counselors and I. Since they look up to us they tend to mirror our actions, so if counselors are behaving in the proper manner then the kids will tend to behave in the proper manner. Some of the techniques that I don't think that will work as well in my situation are behavior shaping, reinforcement/schedules of reinforcement, punishment because as a counselor we don't have the authority to punish the campers.
