A. Describe what you learned about yourself based on the results of your self-assessment. Based on my CliftonStrengths Assessment results, my top five strengths are strategic, learner, ideation, relator, and responsibility. After taking the assessment, I can see how these five strengths affect my thoughts, decisions, and behaviors. I am strategic in my planning how to spend my time. Being a learner constantly drives to me learn new skills. Whenever I am presented with a problem and a solution, I immediately start thinking about different solutions or different ways of looking at the problem. I find myself relating to people I know well even if I have not been in situations they have been in or are going through. Whenever I take responsibility for a task or project, I do everything possible to finish it to the best of my ability. Each of my five CliftonStrengths helps me in my current role as an IT Technician. Being strategic helps me prioritize my service tickets. I work for a midsize company and am only one of two IT Technicians. Being able to be strategic about my time is imperative to be effective in my role. Being a learner is valuable in my role. I am constantly learning new ways to service existing equipment. I also work next to the company’s infrastructure engineer. Being a learner has allowed me to learn about his role as well as absorb information about the different systems in place at the company. Having ideation as a strength has already benefited the company I work for. I have worked at my current company for two months and I have implemented a new procedure that has not only benefited the IT department but has also benefited the business side of the business by saving money. Being a relator is huge in my current role as an IT Technician. When I work with internal employees or external employees, relating to their frustration, and sympathizing with them helps put them at ease and decrease their frustration. Finally, having responsibility as a strength benefits me greatly in my role. Taking on issues with equipment or systems and following through until the issue is resolved without direct oversight has made me a valuable member of the team. B. Create one SMART goal for developing influential leadership skills. Goal: I want to improve my confidence in communicating my ideas on how to improve processes that are in place at a company. I will do this by bringing up my ideas for process improvement with four different co-workers over the next month . S – Improve my confidence in communicating process updates that need to be updated to improve business success. M – I will bring up the improvements with four different co-workers over one month. A – I will spend thirty minutes working out the details of the improvements before speaking with my co-workers. R – Improving my confidence in communicating process changes will help me work with my current team on future projects and in future roles.
T – After one month , I will be more comfortable communicating process changes that need to change to improve business outcomes. How does my smart goal support the development of leadership skills? Learning to confidently and effectively communicate processes and process changes is essential for leaders. With my developing confidence in communication skills, I will be a more effective leader in any role I am in. With the skills I learn by working on my smart goal, I will be able to convey the needs of the business to my teammates and steer the direction of the team to the processes that need to be worked on and changed. How do the strengths identified in your self-assessment will help you achieve your SMART goal? All my strengths identified in the CliftonStrengths self-assessment will help me achieve my SMART goal. Being strategic will help me decide what procedures need the most attention and where the team’s energies need to be spent. Being a learner will allow me to learn from other people’s experiences and expertise to decide the best course of action. Ideation will help me think about processes differently and come to the best solution. Being a relator will help me understand team members and will also help me understand the way they feel and give me insights into their way of thinking. Also, it will allow me to understand how people will adapt to changes in processes. Finally, responsibility being a strength, it will allow me to follow through with process changes and help me stay on top of changes.
