1.
Compare the following information between teaching and non-teaching hospitals.
The number of non-teaching hospitals is higher than the number of teaching hospital in all
characteristics. For examples, the teaching hospitals have 936 beds while non-teaching hospitals
have 2094 beds.
2.
What are the main significant differences between teaching and non-teaching
hospitals? (use t-test)
The key differentiating factors between teaching and non-teaching hospitals encompass the bed
capacity, staff size (including paid employees, interns, and residents), total hospital expenditures,
revenues, net income, the provision of Medicare and Medicaid services, hospital discharges, and
specifically, Medicaid and Medicare discharges.
Each of these has p-values that are lower than
5%.
3.
Comparing hospital net-benefit, which hospital has better performance? To answer
this question first compute the hospital net benefits with subtracting hospital costs
and revenues and then use t-test to compare the significant differences between
teaching and non-teaching hospitals.
Teaching hospitals have lower performance than non-teaching hospitals in terms of net benefits,
revenue, and costs. Teaching hospitals and non-teaching hospitals exhibit substantial differences
in their performance.
4.
Use a box-plot and compare hospitals-cost and hospital-revenues between teaching
and non-teaching hospitals.

5.
Write a short paragraph and describe your findings and their importance for the
managerial decision-making. List a specific managerial function and the way the
processed date will be used to meet the managerial objectives.
The t-test results demonstrate a statistically significant disparity between teaching and non-
teaching hospitals in relation to all variables. This is because, as observed below, the p-value is
consistently less than 0.05 in all cases. The findings indicate a confidence level of 95%.
