Title of the source for the Research-Driven Critique Essay
Electric Vehicles: Not a Deal for You or the Environment
Deconstruct the Source
Write a one-paragraph summary. Answer questions based on your source.
Summary
In “Electric Vehicles: Not a Deal for You or the Environment” published in the Epoch Times on July 27, 2022, the author discussed why electric vehicle is not a sustainable option for the environment. The author pointed out that the limited lifespan of the battery is a crucial factor for the electric vehicle. The battery’s warranty, replacement, disposal, and manufacturing process determine why electric vehicles cannot be a good option.
Write a paragraph that answers the following questions
In what ways is the argument logical, fair, and reasonable? Even if you happen to think it's weak, why might some reasonable people agree with the author?
What are the problems, flaws, or gaps in the argument? Even if you think it's basically strong, why might some reasonable people disagree with the author? What objections can you raise about the argument? Try hard to be rigorous, but if you really can't find "flaws," what new questions and areas for development does the argument raise?
The author used the cause-and-effect technique to point out the misconception that battery electric vehicles are sustainable, and the argument is logical and reasonable.
The author tried to convey that electric vehicles are not the solution to the environment because of lithium batteries. The author explained it from its linear production to its disposal to reinforce her standpoint. The battery warranty is limited, the replacement cost is expensive,
the disposal is problematic, and the manufacturing and charging process is polluting. All together explains why the lithium battery is fatal for electric vehicles. Someone may disagree with the author as it is too arbitrary to say that the battery electric vehicle is not sustainable because it reduces fossil fuel usage, which is much more harmful to our environment. But the author writes to recognize that the battery electric vehicle is an alternative but not the solution to the effects of climate change. The author does not exaggerate but speaks the truth. Therefore, this argument is logical and reasonable. The author’s imagery consequence of this standpoint is persuasive.

This article written by Anne Johnson, published in the Epoch Times on July 27, 2022,
is my primary reading for my research essay. The author claimed that the battery electric vehicle is not sustainable to the environment because of its limitation. She explained her standpoint by cause and effect that the limited warranty, high replacement cost, problematic disposal problem and indirect pollution in the manufacturing and charging process are the fatal
to support her claims.

. The authors study the environmental impact of different battery electric vehicles (BEV) and the usage of refurbished battery. They do the extensive assessment of the environmental impact of all the life-cycle stages of the BEV. This research article supports the standpoint that the production of BEV is not sustainable because of its limited lifespan and carbon
emission. The environmental impact of refurbished battery is counterprove that the existing battery is not reliable and needed to be replace.

. The authors study how to recycle the lithium-ion battery, the battery used for electric vehicles, in an environmentally friendly way. They introduce a new technology in lithium-ion battery recycling to reduce the pollution. This research article supports the standpoint that the recycling of the lithium-ion battery for electric vehicle is problematic and created another pollution problem. The new technology is developed to reduce the harm to the environment in
the recycling process.
