1- The best way to avoid the “hot spots” 1-3 at Montgomery-Gibbs airfield is to review the airfield chart and taxi diagram. 2- Another solution to this would be to request a progressive taxi from KMYF Tower/Ground The most common mistakes made by pilots are hot spots 1 and 2. They are quite confusing, especially at night. You have to hold short of two taxiways before RWY28L. Hot spot 2 is holding short of RWY 28L while still on RWY23. Identifying the hot spots before takeoff/en route is key to expect these busy intersections with taxiways and runways at KMYF. I would also request a progressive taxi from ATC even before landing just to be sure. This airfield is the largest GA airfield in the San Diego area, but it is relatively small compared to several international airports around the world. When in doubt, ask for help. This will help your decision-making process be fluid and safety assurance efficient. If a pilot crew does not pay attention to this, runway incursions and incidents can occur that are easily preventable.
