Alli Rogers INTS 1000 Assignment 3 Program Plan Considerations 1. Would you prefer the class times to be different? What would you like- more evenings, more online, weekend classes, or are the current times ok? ATC schedules classes when they work for most students, but we never know if this year’s students are the same as last years! 1. My class times are whenever it is most convenient for me because my entire program is online. Actually, I don’t think I have seen any in person classes available for the HITM program. The only thing that I am not a fan of is how some professors make the assignments due on Saturdays. I have weekends off so I tend to work on a lot of my homework during that time. It would be a lot less stressful if every class just had their content due on Sundays 11:59pm. 2. Your program length and content are guided by the jobs we train for. We are also limited to 60 credits. Looking at your program plan, what do you wish were also included? What’s missing? What might you have to learn on your own, or get more training for? 1. I think that there should be more coding classes. We take classes for ICD-10- CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT coding, and then we take an advanced coding class which is a mixture of the three. I feel like there should be at least one more advanced coding class to really hone in on the coding skills, as the accuracy of medical coding is one of the most important parts of the job. 3. ATC programs get revised every year or two. Some information is removed; what do you think will be removed next? Looking at the plan, does anything seem outdated or unneeded? I realize you may not know enough yet to know, but make a prediction! 1. I think the Microsoft Excel class was a bit unnecessary. I have used Excel a lot so on one hand it was an easy A, but on the other, I felt like I was wasting my time and money. 2. I also feel like this class is a bit unnecessary for me personally. I know that I needed elective credits, and this is what was recommended to me by my advisor, but am wondering if there was something that could apply better to my future career rather than my study skills? 4. Do you like more skills or more theory? ATC programs balance these parts so you understand why things work, but which do you prefer? 1. I like more skills. I like the feel of working hands on and being challenged. 5. Would bigger be better? Programs are limited due to equipment and space, job market, student numbers, instructors, and other things. What do you think is needed to grow your program at ATC? 1. Every school everywhere needs more instructors. And instructors need better pay, and tuition needs to be more affordable. This is an issue nationwide.
