Taliah Wallace Introduction to Computers Module 3 Assignment There are many businesses today who use information technology to manage and maintain their structure, operations, and to communicate with their consumers. Businesses need to always be prepared to handle their competitors, know what products to sell, and how to gain revenue. To make sure all of these needs are met, businesses use an information system. An information system is a combined combination of hardware, software, processing, people, and data. Each components have important duties for a business organization to stay successful. Information systems allows a business to manage and decide data and processing systems. It provides majority of information from all aspects of data to operate the management side of the organization. Computers is one of the main sources in today’s world to run a business. Software, hardware, and data are the three components that forms the technology of a business. Hardware is the physical component that can be touched. If there is no hardware, an information system cannot function. This tool is needed. Computers, mouse, flash drives, tablets, keyboards are some examples of the hardware component. Software is the guidelines and directions on telling the hardware what to do. It can consist of different application programs that process data and provide output in a useful format. Examples of software components are Microsoft windows and Microsoft excel. Data is the collection of information. Business needs to collect data to form their organization, understand the competitors, and stay up to date. Data is stored resources to help with decision-making in the business. Data can be defined as a representation of facts, concepts, or instructions in a
formalized manner, which should be suitable for communication, interpretation, or processing by humans or electronic machines. (“Computer-Data”). The other components are non- technical components of an information system. Process and people are the non-technical components of the information system. People are an essential component. Not everything can be handled through technology. Human expertise is need. Programmers, analyst, call center reps, and many other developers gather data and focus on processing. People did create the CPU. The process component is a sequence of steps to handle achieving business goals and outcomes. Having these steps allows businesses to stay on top of products for their consumers and being able to make more money. It is to ensure the work gets done right. All of the five primary components of an information system are important in a business organization. They all differ but are essential to keeping a business on point with gaining more revenue, understanding products for consumers, and being up to date with technology. However, there is one component that is possibly more essential to a business and should not be overlooked. People and their actual contribution to the organization. They are the users, software creators, developers, front-line workers, managers, and others who connect with the systems. People and their creative minds bought the system together to even be used in an organization. People are the ones maintain the hardware, software, and data. The skills and knowledge people have pretty much determined what is being imputed the system for business to be successful. Their understanding of working the hardware, know the software applications, collecting the data, and processing it vital to an information system.
Jim Collins, in his book “Good to Great,” said, “Those who build great companies understand that the ultimate throttle on growth for any great company is not markets, or technology, or competition, or products. It is one thing above all others: the ability to get and keep enough of the right people. GET THE RIGHT PEOPLE ON THE BUS FIRST, AND THE WRONG PEOPLE OFF THE BUS. . . .” (The box theory). Before deciding to work in the medical field I was a property manager. I was in charge of account receivables. My supervisor and I realized we needed some type of software that collects data and shows the bookkeeping. My colleagues and I created an application software for my tenants to download on their smartphones. It allowed us to collect rents, pay landlords, and collect fees from landlords and third parties. Based on the information system, all the components were used and vital to making this a successful move. Even though I am not a programmer engineer or data analyst I was still able to create a software that allowed the hardware (smartphones) to do what was needed. The data that was collected was vital to the structure of the business. We took the necessary steps to achieve this goal and had a vert great outcome. My coworkers and I (“the people component”) put all our knowledge and skills together to create the program made the job run smoother than ever. Also bought in more revenue. It was so

good other property management companies paid my boss to set up the program with their tenants. This is why people are crucial and most essential to the information system. In any business, the information system can be useful to run a successful organization. All components working together are vital to the company. However, people are the most important component needed in the business. Without people there would be no business. Computers were created by people.
