1 Week 10 Case Study 1 Mira Guirguis South University NSG5003 Advanced Pathophysiology Dr. Sandi Dr. McDermott April 20 th , 2024
2 Part 1 Case Study 1 1. Most likely cause including pathogen:   A class of viruses known as adenoviruses can infect people and lead to a variety of ailments. Numerous gastrointestinal, ocular, and respiratory illnesses are brought on by them. Adenoviruses are extremely contagious and can be transferred by contact with contaminated surfaces or objects, respiratory droplets, and intimate human contact (Solano, 2023). A frequent adenovirus infection is called viral conjunctivitis, or "pink eye." This disorder develops when a viral infection causes inflammation of the conjunctiva, the thin, transparent membrane that borders the inside surface of the eyelids and covers the white portion of the eye (Solano, 2023). Therefore based on the information provided, I believe this patient is suffering from viral conjunctivitis and the pathogen responsible would-be adenovirus. 2. Mode of transmission: The most common ways for adenoviral conjunctivitis to spread are by direct contact with contaminated eye fluids, contaminated objects like towels or makeup, and respiratory droplets from sneezing or coughing (Solano, 2023).
3 3. Discuss data that supports your decision: There are other symptoms associated with viral conjunctivitis, such as upper respiratory infection symptoms. 4. Treatment strategies:   As a self-limiting illness, adenoviral conjunctivitis does not respond well to specific antiviral drugs. The goals of treatment are to reduce symptoms and stop them from spreading. To stop the infection from spreading further, this may entail using lubricating eye drops, placing cool compresses over the eyes, and maintaining proper cleanliness (Solano, 2023). Part 2 Case 1 1. Determine whether the disorder causes a conductive, sensorineural, or combination of both types of hearing loss.   I feel as though this woman is suffering from conductive hearing loss. A form of hearing loss known as "conductive hearing loss" is brought on by a malfunction in the outer or middle ear's ability to conduct sound waves. Depending on the underlying cause, this form of hearing loss can range from mild to severe and usually entails a decline in the capacity to hear faint noises (Sooriyamoorthy, 2023). 2. Explain the part of the ear that is affected and describe the disorder.  When a person experiences difficulty sending sound from the middle and outer ear to the inner ear for various reasons, it is known as conductive hearing loss. Her cerumen impaction is the cause of her hearing loss (Sooriyamoorthy, 2023).
