Concept explainers
To fill:
The correct terms in the given blanks to complete the sentences.
Introduction:
Photosynthesis is the anabolic process in which the solar energy from the Sun is converted to chemical energy. Autotrophs use light energy, carbon dioxide and water to form glucose and oxygen. The energy stored in the glucose produced by photosynthesis can be transferred to other organisms when the molecules are consumed as food.
Answer to Problem 5MI
The correct term is given in the table:
S.No. | Term |
1 | Light energy |
2 | The Sun |
3 | ATP |
4 | NADPH |
5 | ATP |
6 | NADPH |
7 | Glucose |
8 | Simple sugars |
9 | Starch |
10 | Energy |
Explanation of Solution
Photosynthesis is a process of carbohydrate synthesis by green plants. It is divided into two processes the light-dependent or light reactions and light-independent processes or dark reactions. Both processes require energy and are inter interdependent. During the light-dependent process, chlorophyll traps solar energy converts solar energy into ATP and NADPH molecules. The light-independent processes or dark reactions uses power (ATP and NADPH) to fix carbon dioxide into carbohydrate.
