Introduction: Plants are vital to our survival. The oxygen we breathe, the food we eat, and many of the things that make our lives comfortable, such as clothing, furniture, and our homes, come from or are parts of plants.
Explanation of Solution
If a plant is fertilized, the male and female cells create a zygote − a single cell that will divide into a new entity and develop into one. That zygote will eventually form the plant embryo which is protected by the parent plant by forming a container around it, which is a seed. Effectively, the plant embryo purpose is a kind of "starter package" for the life of the new plant: it includes the earliest aspects of the plant's roots, leaves and stems and is capable of determining, just by using its container, that the right conditions for growth exist.
When the embryo senses a sufficient quantity of water, oxygen and other minerals in its atmosphere, it starts consuming the endosperm in its container so that the new plant continues to expand.
