Correct vocabulary for the underlined phrase in the given description.
Introduction:
Whenever biologists engage in research, they use standard procedures. Before their work is made public, science-based information is also reviewed by peers of scientists. They can repeat the work of others as part of their research work. This is possible only if they use same system of measurement.
Answer to Problem 9A
The measurement based on powers of ten used by scientists when conducting research is the metric system.
Explanation of Solution
Scientists gather information from various experiments. This information is called data. Most scientists use metric system when they collect data and perform experiments. The metric system uses powers of ten as units with divisions. The general Conference of Weights and Measures established the unit standards of the metric system in 1960. This system was called International System of Units, commonly called SI.
