Chapter 1, Problem 1.35NP
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The volume of air needed to provide 350 kg of carbon dioxide at T=310 K and P = 1.00 atm needs to be determined, if the air is 0.0314 % CO2 by volume.

Concept introduction:

An ideal gas follows the ideal gas law which states that:

  PV = nRT

Where P is pressure of gas

V- Volume occupied by the gas

n- Moles of the gas

R- Universal gas constant

T- Temperature

Also, number of moles can be calculated from mass and molar mass as follows:

  n=mM

Here, m is mass and M is molar mass.

Assume 402.46 g of dry ice (solid CO2) is placed in an empty 26.66L closed tank. Determine the pressure in the tank in atmospheres at a temperature of 41.88°C. Assume that all the CO, has been converted into gas. (Molar Mass CO2 = 44.01) K = 273.15 +°C %3D R = 0.08206 (L*atm)/(mol*K) Give your answer to 2 decimal places. 近
A sample of propane (C3H8) is placed in a closed vessel together with an amount of O₂ that is 2.00 times the amount needed to completely oxidize the propane to CO2 and H₂O at constant temperature. Part A Calculate the mole fraction of each component in the resulting mixture after oxidation, assuming that the H₂O is present as a gas. Enter your answers numerically separated by commas. Use 3 significant figures.
5.(a) Assume for the moment that air consist of 80.00% nitrogen and 20.00% oxygen byvolume. Use these figures and typical values for temperature and pressure (1.000atm, 25.0 ºC) to calculate the density of air. (b) This calculation affords a good approximation of the density of air at sea level.However, your lab is at an altitude approximately 777 meters (2550 feet). Knowingthis, will the density of air in you lab be higher or lower than the value you justcalculated? Why? (c) Besides altitude, what else affects the atmospheric pressure? Where could you findthe actual atmospheric pressure at the time of the experiment?
