In unit 2 I will be introducing the topic of equality, diversity and rights in health and social care. I will also be discussing the meanings and 7 main benefits of them. Equality diversity and rights are all important to each and every individual, each person has different characteristics, personality and individuality but quality, diversity and rights is what undifferentiates each and every individual showing that everyone matters and no one should be victimised, discriminated or treated differently because of their needs , culture, race, sexuality, gender, religion, age, education, language or background. There are different regulations regarding equality, diversity and rights they are not also important or helpful of victims but also for the victimiser. Each individual has a right to their own opinion, beliefs and thoughts but to an extent. Rights are linked to both diversity and equality because each individual has a right to be equal and a right to be different and to be themselves or who they want to be. Rights also help to recognise when individuals are being treated fairly/unfairly, diversity supports individuals in any particular needs they might has as individuals which will make them feel valued and respected and will feel they are being treated with dignity these will help each individual feel more positive, confident and comfortable about themselves. Diversity also means that people need to be aware that an individual’s differences does not obstruct the way they should be cared for by health and social care services. They need to be valued and acknowledged and valued for who they are. Diversity is important in a health and social care
Diversity means respecting the difference in each person. The way in which the centre promotes diversity is when they look at each person individually, and come up with care plans in which ensures the best care for each person. This is needed because everyone is diverse (different) meaning each person will have different needs and need help in different areas. The centre puts into consideration the patient’s needs and adapts their care plan accordingly. For example, the centre came up with a very diverse care plan for Brenda Grey to improve her health wellbeing. The centre had to consider many things some of them being fitting in a health visitor whilst also having time to visit a GP. Brenda is also diverse because she didn’t want everyone ‘knowing her business’ therefor the centre had to also adapt and reassure her that nothing would be discussed with her knowing. A range of factors can impact individuals with sensory loss, such as blind or partly sighted individuals struggle to read peoples facial expressions, which are important for communication. Also not realizing someone is talking to an individual if they are walking past or stood behind them can be frustrating. Written communication can also be problematic for partly sighted individuals. Larger font may help overcome these issues. People who are hard of hearing can also become frustrated as they can’t hear day to day noises such as the doorbell, telephone ring or people talking to them directly. This may make them feel with drawn from others and lonely.

It is very important to try hard to reduce your chances of getting an illness or getting injured. For example, when you go snowboarding during the winter, it is very important that you wear enough clothing to stay warm and don’t get cold. Also, it is important that you wear protective gear to keep you safe. Also, if you have a certain disease, it is important that you take care of it. Like for people with asthma, they have to make sure they take their medication so that they can reduce the risk of them having an attack. Another thing you can do is make sure you get vaccinated for diseases. I hope that through this issue, you can learn the different ways to reduce your chances of getting an illness or infection.

Diversity constitutes a multitude of variations and differences. Everyone has distinct features that differentiate him or her from the one another. Whether short or tall, big or small, we are diversified. In order to help others, to change the world, or to create social cohesiveness, thorough knowledge and experience with diversity is necessary. For this matter, social work is positioned around diversity ethics and as a social worker one must proactively work with a diversified population throughout his or her professional career. Even though I have always had a strong interest in the social work profession, having numerous personal experiences with diversity allowed me to further realize that I had a passion to help people no matter who or what they are. The two experiences that I have had involving diversity and that I recollect the most are that of adjustments I had to make as a student at The University of Alabama and experiences that I have had throughout my three years on my current job at Walgreens.
