Technology Implementation Introduction There are many reasons that organizations choose to upgrade or introduce various technologies. The speed at which new technologies are developed has reached previously unimaginable heights. Computers and software can become obsolete in a matter of a couple years and this lifespan is continually declining. As a result, modern organizations are continually introducing and adapting new technologies and a regular basis to stay competitive or maximize their productivity. Yet there are so many new implementations that are unsuccessful and actually create more problems than they were intended to solve. This paper will introduce some of the issues associated with the implementation of new technologies into modern organizations. Technology Cycles Before the technological revolution that has changed nearly every part of our daily lives in the last decade, work related tasks were fairly static in nature. The need for an administrative staff was much greater than in the modern organization and it was common for people to perform the same types of tasks repeatedly for long periods of time. However, the modern work environment barely resembles that of any of its predecessors. In fact, Peter Drucker coined the phrase "the age of discontinuity" in the early nineties and this trend has only intensified since then (Anderson & Tushman, 1991). The life cycles in which technologies are replaced are becoming vastly shorter year by year. What was
Technology advances has been most dramatic in clerical and service work, which has led to the deskilling of labor. The basic job of this service work is to handle, maintain and process information. Improvements such as the computer, voice recognition software and automation processes have led to the deskilling of this service work. As a result of this technology people are now facing the threat of losing their job because a process has been changed, upgraded or eliminated.
The work entitled "Challenges and Reflections on Knowledge Society & Sociotechnical Systems" reports that information technology (IT) is redefining the business basis" and that "customer attendance, operations, product strategies, marketing and distribution and even the society of knowledge depend sometimes even totally on Information System (IS)." (Balloni, 2010, p.21) The implementation of a new technology has been associated with problems that are "often linked to resistance by the work force and failure to achieve the expected benefits." (Balloni, 2010, p.21) Balloni (2010) reports that there must be a fit between the 'technical' and 'social' system, which form the organization. This means that business strategy, rules and processes determine the type of software and subsequently the type of hardware, database, and telecommunications system needed by the organization. The social system is comprised by the organization's
Over the past few years technology has caused significant changes in the way enterprises conduct business.

“Here is a spoon. Please dig a 30-foot trench in the next couple of hours, please.” To most people, this is a ridiculous request as there are a vast amount of better suited equipment available to complete the job within the specified time. Yet, when companies do not align their Information Systems (IS) and Architecture with organizational business and strategic needs, their processes, equipment, and efforts prove ineffective and costly. For this reason, companies need to invest time and money into planning, investigating, and selecting the right software solutions, architecture and vendors to help them achieve high productivity and return on investment.
How information technology can be effectively integrated with company’s "production, marketing, human resource, research design and finance" to take the advantage of core competence, as well as leveraging the quality and speed to help company business continuity.
Over the years, technology has become a major part for a business and for an individual as well. Technology has become so advance that it has made a major effect for the staff as well as for the customers. New technology has helped in many areas such as data and information storage, advertising, transportation and communication.
When deploying new products into an organization that contain elements you do no have experience with, like new technology, considered the human factors in the implementation process to reduce issues that may arise. When implementing new technology within a company, make sure that end users contribute into the design process and that the end user will benefit from the change. Managers should communicate constantly and effectively, involve employees, and leadership to endorse the technology and the change process.
Technology has contributed to many of the largest changes in recent history. One field impacted by the revolutionary power of technology is work. The workplace continues to incorporate technology at an exponential rate that has in no doubt contributed to an increase in both the quantity and quality of goods and services available. The benefits of technology are widely known; however, the negative implications of technology in the workforce are a little more unfamiliar. The progression of technology in the workplace is harmful to society because of its degenerative effects on the working class. The widespread use of technology foremost threatens the stability of work and the character of the common worker.
The implementation of new technology in a company is usually an enormous process with potential difficulties that may have long-term impact on the organization. In most cases, the implementation of technology usually involves installation of new software and hardware that the technology will operate on. This process also involves the range of possible and unavoidable problems that are associated with human factors, which are totally unpredictable. Consequently, the implementation of technology requires an organization to appreciate the fact that conflicts may arise in order to anticipate significant trouble spots, avoid problems, and lessen the problems significantly. New technologies are regarded as mechanisms developed to make human work easier since they provide fast and quality services. In order to meet the evolving needs and demands of the public, many companies across various industries are adapting and implementing new technologies.
CHANGE is the only constant in the relationship between information systems and organizations. As technology evolves and changes, its introduction into organizations requires changes in the firm 's infrastructure and the services it can provide to its employees, customers, and suppliers.
The major underlying assumption is that legacy systems are holding up businesses. There is numerous business potential together with the operational value that is tied to legacy systems. The cost of transition to modern or updated systems is not just in monetary terms but also in time (Connolly, & Begg, 2010). There are mainly three ways of combating legacy systems; continue, upgrade or replace. The value proposition of each of the choices is the daunting task for most organizations. Can they take up the cost and effort of replacing a system? How long can they use the current system? Is an upgrade helpful and what are the changes that will come with it? The fact that business is perpetually changing and adapting to new requirements every
It is not that companies do not want to keep up with the evolving markets, it is simply the fact most companies cannot, due to the established technical and social infrastructures which do not have the capacity to keep up with the preferred strategic desires. The article states a main root of the of the issue is that there is a lack of urgency in both agreement and for systems that support collaboration. In order for organizations to remain competitive, they must have a IT structure that energizes the internal organization, engages customers, and strive for innovation and experimentation. The gap is when companies fail to change their habitual structure toward an IT environment that can handle rapid reconfiguration of business-process and work-flow technologies.
Over the years we have seen massive changes not only in our personal lives, but as well as in the workplace. These drastic changes are due to the rise in technology and how it will continue to affect the way the economy works when looking at unemployment rates, economic growth, and inflation. It is becoming quite clear that the future of the workplace will be less centralized, more flexible, more mobile, and with a stronger use of AI. These along with other trends will continue to grow with the increase in mobile technology, the never-ending race for top talent, and economic volatility. The future of the work place will not only grow and attempt, but it will continue to influence the way the economy functions.
06 Oct 2010 Technologies that are new to an organization present a number of issues simply because they are new. Such issues are rarely addressed properly or sufficiently, if at all. The lack of a formal process for introducing new technology into an IT environment is one of the biggest challenges faced by companies looking to leverage new products. Here is a look at how you can plan for introducing new technologies -including new software, new systems, new versions of existing software and systems, and more -- to ensure the proper technical teams and governance mechanisms are
