Crafting of Because of Winn-Dixie Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo is a tale about a girl named Opal. She is new to town and encounters a dog at a grocery store that helps her along her new journey. Throughout this book Opal gets to know everyone and eventually becomes friends with them. The ending may not be a perfect one, however, it does have a good one. This book supports the realistic fiction criteria. The author does a good job in portraying this book as having realistic characters, scenery, and plot. I partially liked the way the author crafted the characters when making the book, was they resemble real people. The author makes the characters come to

When I had finished the book I felt I got to know the characters as another person. A Second thing I liked about how the book was crafted was the scenery. The author made the scenery look like any other small town. It has a library called the “Herman W. Block Memorial Library,” (DiCamillo 40). It has a church, a trailer park, and a “Gertrude’s pet store,” (DiCamillo 50), this is where Opal received her first job. Every student including myself can picture these places in their heads easily. Some may have not seen a trailer park before, but they can take what they saw on television and put it into pictures. The scenery is realistic because most small town have all of these places and many students can relate to this in some way or another. The last point that stood out to me about the crafting of this book was the plot. The author used recurring plots. A plot that is mentioned in one part of the book but then comes up in another part but gives a larger meaning then before. For instance, Otis tells Opal he has has a dark past and was arrested but does not explain to her as to way he was arrested. Later on in the book though, he tell Opal he was arrested because, “I pushed down a police officer for not letting me play my guitar out in public,” (DiCamillo 131). I believe the plot is one of the important aspects of making a book. It is where the story revolves around and how the events of a book
Both of these endings work well in their respective mediums. There is no written law that says a producer or director has to strictly reinforce all the themes of the novel that are being adapted to the screen. If this were true that would make for an entirely dull piece of work, which brings me to the Michael Winner version.
The setting is very joyful, graceful and inviting, but within the town hides much evil (mostly Miss Strangeworth) which one might also say is fairly ironic. The author is very skilled at making a well developed setting, which suits the themes of deception, secrets and incorrect first impression very well and makes the reader think more to conceive what is really happening or how the setting connects to theme, characters and other literary devices.
Plot is very important to a story, novel, or even movies. It helps to make object of the story plain to the reader, and make it as enjoyable to the reader as the author wanted it to be. Plot starts out with an introduction of sorts then runs into the rising action, followed by the main point of the story, then the exposition. When that is over the falling action occurs and finally, the resolution of the story. Willa Cather expresses this very intently in his story “The Sentimentality of William Tavener.” He draws the reader in with a man that is strict with his son and wife who are worthy to participate in the circus in town. Willa tells of the wife trying to convince her husband to allow them to go. Then he surprises the
pivotal part of the plot - it is what makes the story revolve and what
The plot in a fiction text is important in keeping the reader's attention. The majority of the story builds towards a climax. This climax is where the peak of action, suspense or thrill takes place, which then leads to the resolution of the story. As in "Lord of the Flies" the author continued to increase conflict between the boys until a full-scale war takes place, which is the climax. The building
Though it was unfortunate to have such an intelligent man like Morrie to pass away due to a deadly disease in the end, I still think the ending was appropriate and satisfying. Morrie was glad to spend his hardest time with the author and we can see the author was changing bit by bit afterwards. He finds the true meaning of life and learns to love, cherish and appreciate. ‘Love wins. Love always wins.’ as quoted by Morrie. Morrie changes the author's perception of life, as well as the
The literary term Plot is used to describe the events that make up a story or the main part of the story. This is used to make a story more interesting and bring it to life. The book is straight forward, starting at the very start, with Jack and Maureen
Plot is defined as, "the authors arrangement of incidents in a story it is the organizing principle that controls the controls the order of events (Meyer,64)." The element of plot is heavily relied on in the short story, "The Killings" by Andre Dubus. The plot which is completely made inside the imagination of an author (Meyer,64), gives the audience important insight to people, places, and events in the story (Meyer,64) . "The Killings" provides a somewhat conventional plot pattern, where the character is confronted with a problem and is then led into a climax, which late leads to the resolution of the story (Meyer,65). The conventional plot is easy to follow and serves as a basis for movies and other
It was very sad to me that the story didn’t have a different more positive ending, the story had a root for the underdog type of feel in the story, you wanted the underdog to win but it never happen in the
The next literary device the author utilizes is foreshadowing. The author hints at the reader in numerous ways, which builds curiosity, anticipation, and
ways as the each author’s intentions are to direct the reader to the main plot by describing the
Once you begin a book, you’re thrown into a story. As you read you begin to see the true meaning of the book. You see the theme. Character development shows you how the character progressed throughout the story and changed to enhances the theme. Plot events show the character’s reaction to an event to enhance the theme. Setting puts the character in a place that they have to adapt to, which helps bring out the theme. Although each book has its very own unique theme, all authors use character development, plot events, and setting to express the theme.
One of the main reasons that the original ending is better than the published ending is that the original seems to flow better with the overall themes of the novel. One of the major themes that is seen throughout the book is the theme of how growing up is an universal experience where one finds out who they
In her opinion, you can get rid of those cheesy, “deliberately fake” endings and the little details and still have a great story. Attwood doesn’t want the reader to look forward to what the ending is going to be while they are reading the story. The reader should be enjoying the story, not living for the ending. Attwood goes on to state how she feels about each part of the story.
Every story has a plot, both long and short stories. The plot is the storyline sometimes called the plan, with events leading up to form a play, novel, or short story. Every plot has five stages the exposition; setting the scene, the rising action; building the tension, the climax; the exciting bit, the falling action; bringing the loose ends together, and the resolution; bringing the story to an end.
