I walked through the door of Burgum hall on Saturday expecting to not make any friends, to get lost, to be late to all my classes, and to hate living in a big city. But to my surprise, I did make friends, I did not get lost well not really, I was not late to any of my classes even though I did have to almost run, and so far I love the welcoming community of the Fargo area. My experiences during my first week at North Dakota State University ended up being much better than I expected. Overall, I chose to attend college because it is what was expected of me, and because I wanted to further my education to be able to find a job I will enjoy for the rest of my life. I need to continue my education so one day I can have a family and be able to provide for them. If I did not continue my education, I would be making $11/hr at my Nursing Assistant job for the rest of my life and this is something that I just cannot see myself doing because it is just not enough money to live off of. I love being a Nursing Assistant so I know I will love being a Nurse even more. I love to help …show more content…
I felt very overwhelmed my first week at NDSU but as the days go by I get more and more relaxed. The most enjoyable part of being at NDSU is meeting so many wonderful new people. Welcome week was a little crazy but it was fun to be able to meet so many people in such a short amount of time. The most surprising thing during my first week of college was all the walking. I mistakenly wore flip flops my first day and ended up with four blisters! The most gratifying part of being at NDSU is how much more I have been able to exercise and eat healthy. The Wellness Center is a great part of NDSU. I was very happy to see the great selection of fruits and vegetables because in high school the selection was very limited. The experiences I had during the first week were
At 17 years old, I had the grueling task of deciding how I wanted to spend 40 plus years of my life. I always aspired to land a career in the medical field, so I majored in biology like most pre-med hopefuls, but during my junior year, I no longer desired to become a physician. The medical field was calling out to me, but the specialty of focus was incorrect. After graduation, I went back to the basics and put my nursing assistant certification to use.
The career that I plan on pursing would hands down have to be Certified Nursing Assistant. Some people may wonder why I decided to settle with this profession so I guess we’ll just have to take a walk down memory lane. Ever since I was a little girl I love watching nurses work. I never really realized how much I wanted to be a Certified Nursing Assistant until my grandmother took sick at home she had home aids come and see her routinely. I watched my grandmother struggle with her health issues and I also watched how caring and proficient the nurses were towards my grandmother. Seeing my grandmother go through the things she went through definitely made it clear to me that I wanted to do in life. And that was helping all others just like my
A Registered Nurse is a person who enjoys helping other people. They practically have the responsibility for many peoples lives. What’s interesting about a Registered Nurse is that they get to learn about all the parts of the human body. A Registered Nurse works in the medical field and needs to be ready with anything that comes their way. There could be a sudden death, some kind of medical issue that pops up, and even a patient just falls over and hurt themselves. As a Registered Nurse they need to be able to deal with blood, snot, vomit etc. The main thing a Registered Nurse has to be good at is being able, and wanting to help people in need.
As of 2008, there were about 753,600 Licensed Practical Nurses and 2,618,700 Registered Nurses in the United States (U.S. Department of Labor, 2010-11). In the year 2018, the LPN employment percentage is expected to rise 21% while the RN rate should be approximately 22% (U.S. Department of Labor, 2010-11). This may not seem that high, but it is, when one considers that the expected employment rate for a Dentist is only expected to be 16% (U.S Department of Labor, 2010-11). Nursing is a highly respected and sought after career because every person that enters this profession is able to make a difference and is needed by the general population for his/her skills and contributions to the medical field. When a person is contemplating entering
Historically, the nursing field is one that has consistent positive job outlooks, as there is typically a continued shortage. Healthcare is the backbone of most communities, not just for its services, but also for the jobs it provides and the economy stimulation. Jill Bernstein, author for “Changes in Health Care Financing and Organization” states, “The health care industry is a critical component of the national, and most regional and local economies of the United States” (4). The nursing field has suffered challenges due to the economic, social, and the political downturn of the U.S. Nevertheless, there is still some noticeable growth taking place and opportunities available. This shows encouraging signs for new nursing graduates.
If you are planning a career in child care, becoming a nursing assistant can be an important step. While it may not be necessary for a position as an aide in a daycare, it could get you a better salary in that same position. While an aide may get minimum wage at the daycare, a certified nursing assistant salary starts at about $9.00 per hour. The advantage of being a nursing assistant when doing child care is the many skills you have been taught during your training.
So, move-in day was hell. I'm just going to say that. Betweeen stupid issues that shouldn't have happened and dealing with a bed situation and bunch of other stuff, it was just not a good experience at all. To top it off I had orientation events to attend each day for the next three days and hardly ever got a break. I live on one end of campus and the building I was walking to each hour was nearly a 15 minute walk if you were strolling, but lets just say I timed myself and
The 1st semester was full of challenges as a full-time student here at Mohawk College, but I am thankful that it is over. Now, I am grateful that I will be starting my 2nd semester as a Practical Nursing and is determine to succeed.
Immediately at the beginning of the first semester I knew this was going to be a life-changing experience. I could feel the passion that the instructors had for their jobs, and just how much every single person who works at Lone Star cared about my success. When you're young and just arriving at college, you think you will have to do it all yourself, but I learned that it was not just me working towards my success, but everyone involved at Lone Star, from my classmates to the professors and all the other staff as well. It was like everybody was pulling for me, and that gave me a lot of strength. There were times when it was difficult the course material could be challenging but that is when I felt the Lone Star community shine through the most. I could not be more grateful for that.
I show kindness and consideration toward others when I am in charge. Every time I make the work schedule and I know the certified nursing assistants are going to be short staffed, when I get done passing medication I help them with patient care. Also, when I know a cna is having a difficult time with the patient I stop what I am doing and help the cna with the patient.
I was always undecided regarding the career that I wanted to pursue. As I got older and looked at many choices in careers I realized that I wanted to have a career in the medical field. Being a nurse interests me because it requires the study of the human body along with other great opportunities that nurses have in this career. I want to become a nurse because I like being able to help those who are in need.
Nursing is defined as “as an application of scientific knowledge enhanced by artful practice in a socially responsible manner.” (Gregory 5). Nurses provide leadership as members of interdisciplinary teams, provide client centered care to promote health, prevent disease, and restore and maintain client integrity throughout the life span. (Krannich 71). This makes it one of the most interesting professions, in my opinion.
I am most excited to meet new people. At NHTI, I did not take full advantage of the social aspects of the school because I was working full time and taking a full course load. I cannot wait to become part of a community and take advantage of everything the school has to offer.
Ive always wanted a rewarding career that revolved around helping people. I want to pursue a career as a nurse practitioner. I am not sure on what specialty I want. So given a assignment in my Introduction Health Sciences class where I have to shadow a nurse practitioner, it gives me the opportunity to explore a specialty and see what it really is like in their typical work day. An advanced practice registered nurse, by the name of Mary Carlson at Parkland Medical Center was willing to let me shadow her for a day. Carlson graduated with her BSN from Boston College. She then pursued a graduate degree from Boston University. Her official title is, Nurse Practitioner, Emergency Medicine.
