piece of what psychology is all about. Publishing research in psychology journals is the leading way to share your findings and help grow our field. So, throughout the semester I will be encouraging you all to reach out and read what’s going on out there in the wonderful field of psychology! Through these homework assignments, I am hoping you will leave the class with the skills to find peer-reviewed articles, properly cite them in APA format, and think critically about what they are telling you – each
The reason to enroll in the Critical Thinking class was to the fulfill requirements for an Associates Degree to transfer to a university. I thought the class was just reading and in class writing. As the professor explained the syllabus I started to feel a little overwhelmed with all the reading, essays and homework. Writing in the second person was hard to adjust too due to the only writing done was in an office for the past twenty years. Receiving low grades pushed me to find help starting with
strengths were in the exercise and training program questions, the weight management and BMI questions, the questions on basic nutrition concepts, and some of exercise science vocabulary questions. Even though I took HS200 a few years ago it was a class I did well in. Also I took a few exercise science classes at my community college, and live an active lifestyle, so I think this helped me on this pre-req test b. Weaknesses: I wasn 't familiar with certain vocabulary words like “progressive overload”
This semester I learned so much. I had never taken any class like this before so it was all new. I learned all about the brain and how it works. We started with psychology in general and what it is. Then we learned a lot about the brain and what is inside. For example, the hypothalamus is in charge of regulating the body’s temperature and thirst and hunger. This was interesting to see everything that is involved in our everyday life. While learning about this we watched the video on Phineas Gage
write my educational philosophy, I had absolutely no idea what to write about, to be perfectly honest. So, I thought that I would start with the most essential aspect of an educational philosophy: why do I want to become a teacher? The reason why I want to teach is because I want to be able to impact young people’s lives and help them to learn how to become successful citizens in our world. I feel that it is important that no matter what students do with their lives, they are given a firm structure
The faculty member I have chosen to interview for this assignment is Dr. RaLynn Schmalzried who is both a member of the Department of Psychology and the professor of my Psychology 100 class. Since the first day of class, Psychology 100 has been a fun and increasingly interesting experience, to the extent that it has made me interested in getting a minor in Psychology. I was intrigued by her perspective on how students could be successful in school and in life. When it came to deciding who to interview
This psychology class has further introduced me to two subfields of psychology that interest me. The first subfield is clinical psychology, which is “the study of individuals, by observation or experimentation, with the intention of promoting change” (American Psychological Association, 2015). They study different types of metal, emotional, and behavioral disorders from things as small and temporary such as school and work stress, to permanent issues like schizophrenia and post-traumatic stress disorder
video we watched also showed what a huge difference having a loving, supporting family has; the kids whose parents made them hide it seemed miserable, whereas Jazz (whose parents loved her unconditionally and allowed her to be open about the
make such a difference within a community? The following will detail, how a stray dog inspires a community coalition, to assist other animals, and my experience as a volunteer for the coalition’s very 1st community event. Now, take a further look at What is “Freddie’s Hope” http://www.freddieshoperescueranch.org? One day, a group of volunteers discovers a stray dog in a Fiesta parking lot. The canine is famished and dehydrated, obviously from his lack of food and clean water. An examination reveals
“Hahaha, you have no friends!” Rings through my ears, as I hide seated at my desk, dogging the daggering stares. My fragile mind scorched by the tormenting at recess - perched on the jungle gym, suffocated by the wild chanting orchestrated by my hunters howling indecencies about my clothes, body and face. Some remember their childhood fondly I recall mine plagued with extreme insecurity, caused by the years of taunting inflicted by my classmates. My hope-my horizon in the stormy wilderness, was
